We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan, Lindsey and Theresa Kuhn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, Lindsey and Theresa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We actually have a General Contracting business that we have grown over the last 6 years. However, when Covid hit… it affected us quite a bit. Especially since our main source of projects is Retail & Office Spaces. Work essentially came to a halt.
So… we did what many people did. We grabbed our camper and hit the road! During this trip, we down to south Texas around Kerrville, over to Marfa and then down to Big Bend. One thing that we kept talking about is the peace we felt under the stars. The views were amazing! The other thing was that we loved camping and the joy others seem to have at a campground. We decided that this… this is what we wanted to do! Start a campground. Start something different. Create a place that others can come to escape and getaway… under the stars!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So much to say here… but I think what describes Jordan and I the best would be the song “Hell of a View” by Eric Church. Part of the lyrics say ” This ain’t for everybody, Toes hanging off the ledge, Like we got nothin’ to lose”. I think that Jordan and I have the thought process that “You only live once.” Do we feel the weight of things? Sure. We would not be human if we didn’t. But, I think the one thing that sets us apart is that we just keep moving forward. We have so many ideas and we are definite Outliers in the fact that we do not “follow the crowd”. We think outside the box and abstract… and I think that works for us. All these things collide into a beautiful story that is being written every day. We just have to wake up… and keep moving!
The thing I want people to know about us – personally? That each step, good or bad… it means something. It is the stepping stone that gets you to where you need to be. Professionally? IF we can do, anyone can. We don’t have these big fancy degrees. We really came from nothing. We work hard, fail, work hard and try again. Over time… that has leant to where we are now. We are still learning. We are still growing. BUT… we are doing it. We are going after our dream.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite Spots – hmmm…. first would be our RV Resort of course! It is so peaceful and nestled right here in Fort Worth in the countryside. But, so close to everything! So, come stay in your RV or our Little Cottage on property and you can go check out the local scene in Fort Worth, Arlington, Mansfield, Burleson… you are so close to all of it.
My favorite thing to do is hit up brunch in Fort Worth (Social House is delicious) and then go check out the Water Gardens. On the way home, Montgomery Antique mall is so fun to go see what treasures you can find! Some new and some old.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have had many inspirations along our journey. We love to read books and expand our learning. From Dave Ramsey (who helped us plan for financial hardships or emergencies such as Covid) to Robert Kiyosaki in the Rich Dad Poor Dad books (who helped us realize we need a business, not just a job. That it is okay to ask for help.)
Many other books along the way has been inspiring and helped us to say YOLO, but the most of all of this… would be the Lord. He has open so many doors that we never thought could open. He has given us to peace to step out and “just go for it”… He has also held our hand during this process of construction and development and pulled us through the hard days and kept us focused on what we have, which is really special.
