We had the good fortune of connecting with Joey Van Ryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joey, how do you define success?

I feel that success is ultimately about making a difference in other people’s lives. If I know that at the end of the day my clothes have helped someone find a new style or attitude in their wardrobe, then it makes me eager to start creating the next day. I love what I do and I love that I can share that with people.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Early on in my career, I thought I would be working in NYC for some big fashion brand. I’m glad for the work opportunities I’ve worked at and I’m glad to be where I am now. I’m proud of all the amazing achievements that I’ve experienced. I’ve created amazing custom pieces for local talent, and I’ve even created a “Cher” inspired track suit that Cher herself loved! She compared my work to Bob Mackie and I was speechless. It has not been easy, I will say, but it is the determination that has kept me going. I always have to remind myself that it takes one step at a time; things just don’t happen quickly! I would love the world to know that my brand is designed with love for all. A combination of pop culture, youthfulness and the thrive of color are the ingredients behind my creations.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh gosh, I’d for sure take them to Beto & Son at Trinity Groves. Chef Beto & his son Julian are the most welcoming people at their restaurant. They have bomb tacos and delicious Nitrogen Margaritas! We’d then immerse ourselves at the DMA, I love art and have a fine appreciation for it. After a day out, we’d end our day and grab cocktails at Waterproof Dallas. It’s very scenic and what’s not to love about Dallas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s a lot of people I’d love to thank. Recently I’ve worked with Mr. Brad Harlan of Evolve Scents based in Dallas. I’ve done custom work for him and he’s been very supportive of my work and brand. You can see his amazing products at https://evolvescents.com.
