Meet Joel Stephens | Television Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joel Stephens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joel, how does your business help the community or world?
My business – Morcaman Productions, Inc. was started to provide fun, wholesome entertainment to the entire world. I was tired of the current cadre of movies and tv shows that depicted extreme violence and sex – and the language is terrible. So, having been brought up in a different world of classic movies and television shows = I believed that I was not the only one dealing with this and of course the nostalgia of seeing those movies and shows again has been a joy to me and my family. Therefore I began to search out old television shows and movies plus I thought that I could recreate the feeling of youth again in people that went to the movies – watched a cartoon, a cliff hanging serial and a feature length movie at one setting and of course television shows that had a great moral ending or comedy – just for comedy’s sake. Then to show my product to the world, I started “Spydar TV” and Kartoon FunTime” tv channels on Roku – and since then they have been picked up by other stations and other platforms around the globe. It makes me happy to know that people in other parts of the world can see American the way it was when I was a Kid.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m not totally sure on how to answer this question: But I’ve always been creative = and trying to figure out how things work and how to work around problems. In my job, I use the script writing as an outlet – All of my shows have a “host” that introduces the various movies or shows. So I allow myself to be the “creative genius” (laughing) in the writing of those introductions, bumps and of course the wrap. The one thing that I pride myself in with the writing is that I try to “find” the character that I’m writing for and try to enhance the viewer’s experience by developing those characters but always allowing for those characters to interject their own personality so to allow the audience to better appreciate them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a fun question – especially with the Covid -19 virus. I’m not sure that there is much traveling nor restaurants still open that I would like to take them to. Of course driving downtown Dallas – showing them the skyline at night; eating at a Whataburger (who doesn’t like a Whataburger)? Perhaps taking them to my studio and showing them how the magic is created.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where is a better place to start than my parents – We lived in almost abject poverty – I grew up on a farm with no electricity; running water or heat – so obviously no telephone. My parents worked tirelessly to provide food and clothing for both me and my brother. They instilled a work ethic that has not wavered. They have both passed but I still remember them and the lessons taught. My wife of course that has always supported me and my children – a son and a daughter that are the lights of my life –
