We had the good fortune of connecting with Joel Llanes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well, first it just started as something I chose to do on my free time. Another skill that I thought to add to the list of things I want to do. As time went on and my skill progressed, I thought “Hey why not start something up of my own”. And the thought of my having my name as the title on something sounded pretty nice to say the least. So that’s when JLlanesCaptures started to come about. It took a minute to come up with a name because I wanted something that was different yet got the idea of what my business was about. A lot of thinking and asking my peers and family for ideas and what not. JLlanesCaptures just kind of popped in my head and I couldn’t really move past it and so I went ahead and ran with it. The thought of having your own business is nice but there’s things that come with it. Being able to impact the people around you, whether it’s a client, friends, or family, really just adds more joy into doing what I do. And photography does just that. Seeing all the different smiles and giving clients their own opportunity to tell their own “story”. That’s just one of the many reasons it keeps me pushing to get better and carry on with my business. It’s crazy what a hobby can turn into when you put in time and hard work along with dedication; it goes a long way.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Photography/ photographers are every where. But each one of them has their own unique style that sets them apart from everyone. Myself though, I like to get creative and think outside the box. Anything that makes the viewers question like “whoa how’d he do that?” or things that are instantly eye catching. Each time that I go out to shoot pictures, I always get a rush that runs through me because there are so many things that I could capture. That’s if it’s not a specific shoot. And within each picture there is so much the can be said without saying one word. Whether it’s landscapes, portraits, or miscellanious captures, they all say something different. That being a lot of the reason doing photography is so entertaining, it’s always different every time. Getting where I am today wasn’t easy. Nothing really ever is “easy”. There’s always challenges to overcome and things that will push you but it’s all for the better. I overcame situations by never giving up and always pushing forward. My idea of obstacles that stand in my way are ways for me to improve my skill and drive me to always have an open mind. If I can’t do it one way, there’s another way that it can be done. With some tweaks and adjustments, I get the results I want. And when there’s a challenge, with it, is always a lesson to be learned. For me, it has been to never be or stay the same. Always looking to improve, change things up, or attack situations in multiple ways. Because you never know what you will get, could be life changing. JLlanesCaptures looks to give and spread creativity/ positivity among everyone while also giving each person an opportunity to tell people about themselves all within pictures.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Options are endless! Coming to this area, I feel pluckers would be a must for sure. From good food and drinks, the enviroment and atmosphere of the place make it a top choice. We would definitely have to attend some car shows, walk around the city, hike some, all while taking pictures. Anything is fun and exciting when you’re with the right people. Good energy, positivity, and always looking to improve in life is who you have to be surrounded by to better yourself. The more support you have the more easier things may feel. And the feeling of not having to do things alone makes all of the more difference in your journey.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely like to thank my family, friends, and clients for all giving me the support and opportunities to do what I love. Each of them pushed me, gave great advice, or even volunteered to be a client, all to go towards me improving my skill or spreading my name out there to build up my business. They have all done plenty for me and for that I can’t thank them enough.
