We had the good fortune of connecting with Jezz Villanueva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jezz, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
For me, success is rarely a stroke of luck; it’s often the result of consistent habits and dedicated effort. Two habits that have profoundly influenced my journey are consistency and hard work.

Consistency is key. It means showing up day after day, regardless of how I feel or the challenges I face. This commitment to my goals has allowed me to build momentum and make steady progress. Hard work complements consistency beautifully. It’s not just about putting in hours; it’s about being fully engaged and striving for excellence in every task. I believe that hard work opens doors and creates opportunities.

Together, these habits have not only shaped my professional life but have also instilled a sense of discipline and resilience that I carry into all areas of my life.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Rooted Petals is not just a typical plant and flower shop; it’s a heartfelt initiative dedicated to uplifting our community. One of my key programs is the Plant Rescue initiative, designed for plant parents who may be struggling to care for their green companions. I offer guidance and hands-on help to revive their plants, ensuring they thrive and flourish.

Additionally, I make regular visits to elderly homes, where I give away flowers to residents who often feel forgotten by their families. Bringing a little joy and color into their lives is incredibly rewarding. It’s a simple gesture, but it can make a significant difference in brightening their day.

At The Rooted Petals, we believe in the power of connection, both through plants and community service. Every flower and plant we share is a reminder that we’re all rooted in this journey together, and we can support one another in meaningful ways.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d create an exciting week-long itinerary packed with memorable experiences.

Day 1: We’d start with brunch at Bread Winners Café and stroll through the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Dinner would be at Mi Cocina for delicious Tex-Mex.

Day 2: We’d explore the Dallas Museum of Art in the morning, grab lunch at the food trucks at Klyde Warren Park, and visit the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. We’d end the day with barbecue at Pecan Lodge.

Day 3: A hike at Cedar Ridge Preserve would kick off the day, followed by a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, we’d visit the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, then relax with drinks at The Rustic.

Day 4: We’d shop in the Bishop Arts District, enjoy lunch at The Kessler Theater, and explore the Dallas Farmers Market. Dinner would be at Savor with beautiful views.

Day 5: We’d check out Deep Ellum in the morning, have lunch at Pizzeria Testa, and visit The Dallas World Aquarium. We’d end the night with a show at The House of Blues.

Day 6: A morning yoga class at Sunstone Fitness would help us unwind, followed by lunch at Bowl & Barrel. In the afternoon, we’d enjoy White Rock Lake and dine at Nobu.

Day 7: We’d have brunch at The Pancake House, visit the Fort Worth Stockyards, and wrap up with a sunset dinner at The Capital Grille.

This itinerary blend nature, culture, and great food, ensuring my friend leaves with unforgettable memories!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the incredible family, friends, and community who have supported me throughout my journey. Each individual has played a crucial role, offered encouragement and believed in my potential. My partner, Jesse, has taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability, guiding me through challenges and helping me view setbacks as opportunities for growth even when there are times, others doubt my potential.

These moments can be tough, but they motivate me to prove myself and refine my work. I’ve learned to transform that doubt into fuel, pushing myself to improve and innovate. Everyone’s support is invaluable, reminding me that success is a journey, with every step forward counting. I’m truly grateful for the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

I also want to acknowledge the plant groups in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the florist organizations that promote collaboration and learning. Being part of such a supportive community has connected me with like-minded individuals who uplift each other, share knowledge, and celebrate successes together.

Lastly, I can’t overlook the books that have inspired me. One that stands out is Mindset by Carol S. Dweck, which reshaped my understanding of success and failure.

I’m thankful for all these influences—they remind me that success is a collective journey, enriched by the contributions of many.
