We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesus Castillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesus, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued this creative/artistic career because music is the only way I can truly express myself. As cliché as it sounds, it’s true. Truly artistic and creative individuals choose to pursue their passions as a means of expressing themselves in ways they can’t through words. I feel like my music speaks to people in a positive way and I love that I can have a direct connection with someone halfway around the world just from them listening to my music.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When it comes to my music, I’m very influenced by my Hispanic/Latin roots. I try to incorporate that style of reggaetón/Latin Pop into my work. Whether it’s playing a popular mashup with J Balvin or even remixing a Bad Bunny song completely. Adding familiar elements from what I grew up with, this is what sets me apart from others.

In terms of how I got here today professionally, I feel like it all happened a little after things started to open back up during the Pandemic. I was doing DJ streams on all platforms I could, and start releasing more and more music during the Pandemic. Once I felt comfortable enough to go out and start doing shows again, I came across the wonderful minds of Lex Magallon (DJ Lextra) and Jose Portales (Hzy). I approached them and they gave me an opening slot for their weekly event in Fort Worth at The Yard. Since then I have been playing with them in rotation, supporting all event they run as Pulsation Nation, and we’ve all been growing since. I also want to give credit to Brandon Webb who runs One City Music Group, a local Record Label. With Brandon, I’ve been able to put out music on all streaming platforms, and even done shows with him in Deep Ellum.

Growing in this industry is hard to do it alone. You need to be genuine with people and build relationships/friendships with anyone and everyone. In the end of it all, those who want to grow, will grow with you, and those who don’t will just stay down the beaten path and stay in a rut.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First and foremost, Pluckers. Bottom line. Those who know me know my small obsession with that wing place. Then depending on the night the range of places from mini golfing in Dallas, to even indoor skiving in Frisco, with a hint of karaoke in Carrollton. To show love to the south and west side of DFW, even The Stockyards and Trader’s Village are places you’ll see me in.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
