We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Jennings and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think work life balance is something that is consistently changing. We have seasons as a family where there is so much going on, and seasons in the balloon business that seem like there aren’t enough hours to get the jobs done. Sometimes these two overlap and it feels like you are swimming upstream, sometimes they don’t and it is a bit easier. Balance is a continuum that just never stays the same. So, once I feel like I have a grip on balance, it goes and changes again! I think the way to stay sane during the ebbs and flows is to know that you’ll get through it. You may be working your tail off to finish a job, then have to go home, and stay up late working on the science project with your third grader. But the next week you could have the easiest week ever. Breath, be grateful for the work and the family and know that it won’t ever look the same two weeks in a row!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I specialize in organic balloon arrangements to bring a whimsical feel to any event, party or celebration. What sets me apart from others is my ability to communicate and work with my clients. I love meeting new clients, working with repeat ones, and growing relationships that allow us to celebrate together year after year. I am super excited about our new Warehouse space! We recently relocated POP! headquarters to a Warespace in Fort Worth, which allows us to inflate and create on a whole new level. This journey isn’t anything I ever expected, and there have been bumps and twists along the way, but every one has lead me exactly where I am supposed to be and I am so grateful for that. I think in this “instant gratification” culture, it is easy for a potential client to look at companies pricing and make a jump decision from there, but I would just want prospective consumers to know that the balloon business is truly an art, and one price tag does not fit all. We also need time to create the best experience for your event, so planning ahead is always a safe bet!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am trying so hard to get the balloon gals from all over the US to come to visit DFW! They think our culture is mythological HA! From cowboy boots, to cattle parades- they think I am making these things up. If they came to see how things really are bigger (and better!) in Texas, I would start by heading to the stockyards to watch the famous Cattle Drive. Then we would walk down Mule Alley and grab Fort Worth’s BEST spicy ranch water at Hotel Drover. We’d pop over to Joe T’s for the gorgeous ambiance and delicious food, then head back over to the Stockyard’s to visit Second Rodeo and Tannahill’s for some live music.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate this to my family who are so supportive and helpful on this adventure. From babysitting to balloon blowing, every thing is so appreciated. I would also like to dedicate this to all my balloon boss friends from around the world! This job takes a village and I feel so incredibly blessed to have met so many people with the perfect balance of creative and business brains.
