We had the good fortune of connecting with Jane Baldwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jane, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
My morning routine of yoga and meditation is essential. Even if I can only manage 15-20 minutes, showing up consistently enhances the rhythm of my day. Positive affirmations help keep me motivated and inspired. One of my favorites is, “Find magic in the everyday and eternity in the ordinary.” I also schedule something fun into my day because work can get busy and serious very quickly.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As the Founder of Dynamic Unwinding, I work with caregivers who believe that by caring for yourself first you can help others exponentially. My first real job was as an archaeologist in the jungles of Belize. During that time, I was diagnosed with cancer. I left archaeology to recover and heal. I then studied breathwork, yoga, and meditation for many years with some of the best teachers. Through that experience, I learned that the body has an amazing capacity to heal itself. When nourished with attention and care the body has a chance to recover from day-to day-stress. Otherwise, pain, anxiety, and fear build up and stay lodged in the body. In my first business endeavor, I co-founded, with my husband, The Double J Hacienda a & Art Ranch, a retreat center that held breathwork, yoga and meditation classes, and also organic and Ayurvedic cooking and gardening. Every weekend was abuzz with live music and a show in the art gallery. Meanwhile, I struggled with adrenal fatigue, insomnia, and anxiety. I even began to fear cancer coming back. I knew then that I needed to put my daily care back in the bullseye. To recover I created Dynamic Unwinding out of my two decades teaching and studying yoga, breathwork, and meditation. My program works with the body’s 5 Intelligent Systems – Physical, Respiratory, Emotional, Mental, and Digestive. They are our valuable renewable resources and when we connect with them, with breath and attention, the system can be relieved of tension and stress stored in the body. It was a tough decision to sell our dream creation, the Double J Hacienda & Art Ranch. But by giving that dream up I was able to create another I’m equally proud of, Dynamic Unwinding because it’s a scientific and research-based system to support essential caregivers in their day-to-day stress. My favorite business advice is, “How you go into it is how you will live it.” If you are rushed and overworked at $100K, it’s not going to ease up at $200K on its own. “How do you want to live?” That question was my starting point for this business venture. The daily practice of working with my 5 Intelligence Systems keeps me connected to how I feel. The more I can tune into myself in this embodied way, the deeper connections I develop with my family and the caregivers that I work with. I have been able to build my Dynamic Unwinding business with this sense of support. I’ve done it on my own terms using the 3 P’s – positivity, pleasure, and pause. Scheduling bite-sized moments with these three ingredients adds a level of quality to the day that wouldn’t be there otherwise. That lesson did not come easy. It took many years with the mindset of “Work first, then pleasure if there’s any time left,” to realize that is no way to live. You have to integrate the 3 Ps into your day. No one is going to do it for you.If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day 1 – We’d start out at the Arboretum, early before the crowds, make a loop and see the seasonal flowers and get a good view of White Rock Lake. Then head across the street to Curious Garden before picking up a pie from Humble Pies. If it’s lunchtime we’ll swing into Lounge Here and get some small plates and a cocktail or Resident Taqueria in Lake Highlands. We can’t leave East Dallas without a stop into Curiosities and would end the day down in Fair Park at Las Almas Rotas for a mezcal flight and stop off at The Balcony Club for a jazz set. Day 2 – we’d go downtown and view the collections at the Nasher and the Dallas Museum of Art. Then make a lap around Klyde Warren Park, ending up at Miriam for early dinner before catching a show at the Winspear Opera House or Meyerson Center. Day 3 – we wake up at the Statler Hotel, head down to Overeasy for breakfast then up to the rooftop pool. Lunch at Cafe Momentum and then catch a movie at Cinepolis in Victory Park. If we want to dress up – we have dinner at Fearing’s. If we want to dress down, we go to Pepe & Mito’s in Deep Ellum. Either way, we’d end up back at the Statler’s Burbon & Banter for a nightcap. Day 4 – we begin at Magnolia Sous Le Pont for tea and coffee then head over to Fort Worth to the Kimbell and The Modern museums. If we get there early enough we’ll have dinner at Nonna Tata – a tiny 5 table Italian restaurant where Nonna still cooks, in high heels! If the wait is too long we’ll go down the street to Shinjuku Station for sushi. Day 5 – Heading to Bishop Arts for some Dude Sweet Chocolate, lunch at Boulevardier, read a book or hear live music/poetry at Wild Detectives, then to Lee Harvey’s to shoot pool and see friends. For our last night together we’ll have dinner at Nuvo and then catch a show at the Kessler Theater across the street. After a week like that, you will leave Dallas full and happy. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The nurses, doctors, EMTs, mental health practitioners, and other groups and organizations that have been on the front lines of this pandemic are working every day to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Their service is remarkable. They motivate me to get out of bed in the morning and do my morning movement and mindfulness practices so that I am ready to help them unwind and recover.
