We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Boutwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had the desire to build something of my own and creating the salon allowed me to express my creativity and to educate myself on the importance of healthy skin and importance of self-care.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey started as a Medical Assistant, where I gained invaluable experience in healthcare, patient care, and the importance of personalized attention. Working closely with patients sharpened my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of how impactful quality care can be. Over time I developed a passion for skincare and wellness, realizing that I wanted to take a more holistic, soothing approach to my healthcare.
The transition wasn’t overnight, but I explored my interests in aesthetics and skincare then invested in further education and training. With my love for patient care and desire to help others, opening the Soothing Skin Sanctuary became the next natural step. Now as a business owner I can blend my medical background with my love for wellness, offering clients not just beauty treatments but a place of rejuvenation.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1 – Explore Klyde Warren Park with a light lunch as Savor Gastropub, visit the Dallas Museum of Art, then head to Reunion Tower for dinner at Five Sixty.
Day 2 – Head to Ft Worth Stockyards for the day and end with Dinner at Wicked Butcher
Day 3 – Visit Nasher Sculpture Center, shopping at NorthPark, Dinner at Hattie B’s
Day 4 – Drive over to White Rock Lake for a nice scenic walk, visit the Dallas Arboretum and dinner at The Henry.
Day 5 – Lunch at Texas Live and depending on the season either catch a football game at AT&T or baseball game at Globe Life Field
Day 6 – Visit Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Dinner at Nick and Sam’s Steakhouse.
Day 7 – A day of relaxation at Soothing Skin Sanctuary where my bestie can enjoy the best relaxing facial then head over to Taco Y Vino for dinner and drinks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I couldn’t have brought Soothing Skin Sanctuary to life without the unwavering support and encouragement from my family. My husband has been my rock, offering not only emotional support but also practical help, whether it be brainstorming business ideas, backbreaking hands on labor, or just being there when things get tough. My children have also been huge motivators, their belief in me has been the driving force behind turning this dream into a reality. Lastly my parents and siblings have also been amazing support system with their investment into my little dream.
