We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I feel like most see waste in materials and resources used to create my work, but I try to keep my art as sustainable as possible. I use mainly books from local library discard stock and thrift stores to ensure every book has fulfilled it’s purpose. Any pages I do not use from said books get turned into void fill for shipments and thank you letters for my clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is slightly different as I can tailor my pieces to anyone. Hobbies, interests, careers, names, life events, etc. You name it and I can likely create art for anyone. I have put in a lot of time into art and craft shows and really enjoyed just getting to know people. Some days the shows go great and other days I take a hit. But it’s all about rolling with the punches and knowing your audience. It’s easy to quit after a bad day, but I’ve used those moments to make me stronger. As a creative I want people to know that by choosing my art as a gift is a gift in itself. It really does give me joy to know someone else values my work so much they want to share it. Please keep supporting your local artist.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we don’t acknowledge Covid. I would say coffee and croissants at The Perc in Old Town Lewisville and then a stroll around Wayne Ferguson Plaza. One night would be dinner at J2 Steakhouse and a nightcap at Bendt Distillery around the corner. We would most definitely have to go to the Dallas World Aquarium and the Perot Museum. Those places just amaze me and they are right across from each other so even better. Other than that I would go treasure hunting/thrift shopping here and there because that is my most favorite past time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Collectively as a whole my family and friends have been there for me in various ways to ensure my success. Whether it be my cousin, Doreen Heakes/Hanging with the Heakes Blog, for allowing me to sell my work at her various blogger events and really helping get my name out. To my family for attending my shows and helping me bring my vision to life. I’ve had many friends plug my business to their friends and co-workers which has brought me book supply donations and orders. I have to say I’m blessed to be surrounded by so many good people.
