Meet Jennifer Kidd | Sit Still Kids Salon – Flower Mound owner, Jennifer Kidd Photography owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Kidd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was a teacher for 16 years and when we moved to the DFW area, I felt is was time for a new career path. Prior to moving here we lived in Austin Texas and like all moms, I wanted to find a great location for my two kids to receive a quality haircut and a chill environment. I was over joined when I found that at Sit Still Kids – Austin and how they checked all the boxes. Fast forward to living here in the DFW area and the thought of searching for another kid friendly salon that was as amazing as Sit Still Kids – Austin was not something I was truly looking forward to but then Sit Still immediately popped up in my head. Why can’t I bring this amazing franchise to the DFW area. I had the conversation with my husband, looked into the Sit Still Franchise and the rest is history. It has been a roller coaster of a ride but I absolutely LOVE my job!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a business owner is definitely not easy but I love a good challenge. There is so much I could say but the main things I would like to focus on are these …
I am the owner and may be the face connected with the salon but I truly believe it is 100% the stylists that make the salon! I am truly blessed with my team of talented stylists. They are professional, talented, up to date on all the trends, they are moms, genuine, compassionate, friendly and know just how to empower your children to express their unique personalities through their hair. All hold a cosmetology licensed; however, a few are also are barber licensed as well.
We cater to children but we love working with the whole family (teens, tweens, moms, dads, grandparents … you name it). Need a curly cut, bob cut or the best fade cut ever? My team can provide you that upmost quality haircut and have your kid walking out with a smile, confidence and a lollipop! We also offer fun add ons like sparkle strands, mini-manis, feathers and so much more. We have eco-friendly games and toys before appointments and have individual tablets at each station.
The overall goal is to have a place where the whole family can come to receive excellent haircuts or where the kids get that awesome haircut and the parents sit back and relax. Our goal is that we want everyone to feel like they belong and that this is a welcoming and safe environment for all. If you have a special needs child or exceptions, we can dim the lights, turn the music down or off, and even open early or stay late if needed for that private experience and safe space.
Sit Still is more than just a haircut to me. You are now considered friends!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I LOVE this question and at the same time it is so hard to answer because I love food!
If I wanted to go to a casual, fun atmosphere that is family friendly with live music would be Marty B’s in Bartonville. They have the absolute best hamburgers. They also serve a fantastic mexican martini and woodford outlaw. Another amazing place that is Union Bear Brewing Company in Denton. I have not had anything I didn’t like food wise as of now. Their versatile menu makes everyone happy. Beer is good and mixed drinks are on target as well.
If I was feeling like a fancy night, I would take my friend(s) to The Barrel in Bartonville. All of their drinks are fabulous and they also have a wonderful food menu. Another wonderful fancy place I love is Queenie’s Steakhouse in Denton. They often have 4 course meal in which each meal is paired with a specific wine. Super fun and elegant experience. They also make a mean old fashion. Yum!
If I was in the mood for fish, Hillside Fine Grill in Highland Village is your go to place. Their seafood and pasta platter are to die for. My favorite appetizers are the hot crab and shrimp dip and the Italian meatballs. So so good!
Of course you can’t miss out on going to the Stockyards and Billy Bob’s with friends. Then ending at World Springs in Dallas to relax, sip on beverages and enjoy the company.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to give a shoutout to the Sit Still Kids Salon in Austin. The owner Leslie Reeves and I became great friends once I started taking my two kids to her salon. So I would say it was her salon that checked all those boxes I was looking for in a salon for my children that motivated me to dive in and research the franchise and then led me to my journey of being a Sit Still Kids Salon owner.
