We had the good fortune of connecting with JaQuan Richmond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JaQuan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process has always been about breaking generational curses and creating generational wealth. I am very big about creating opportunities for my family and others as well as empowering my peers. I’ve also ALWAYS wanted to be my own boss and remain independent as for as not having to work for no one else.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What separates my brand from most brands is original and quality. Payola Clothing was definitely one of the first original brands based out of Fort Worth, Tx. I have been having a clothing brand since 2016. Before today, it was not nearly as many brands as you see today and top be honest I only think it was about 3/4 brands. Also, originally it was NEVER suppose to be a clothing brand it was originally something else before transition into a clothing brand but ill have to save that story about that another time. There is also a interview of me talking about this on YouTube. Furthermore, quality is the very and most important characteristic of my brand. It is the main reasoning for my success and continues success in the fashion/clothing line world. I am very big and value quality to the t! I can bet you money that you can ask anybody that purchases any kind of clothing for me and they will tell you that my quality is unmatched. If the quality is not there trust me I do not waste my time. Was this easy? NOT BY A LONG RUN! In today’s time it is much easier now because vendors are more accessible now they were back then. When I first started, I was getting TAXED just for simple t-shirts but I am a hustler so I have always respected the game. Then I found out how to to make the clothing on my own and trust me I spend many cold nights in my sister garage making everything and thousands on thousands of dollars just on material and blank clothes to even have product to sell. Then God finally made it all made sense to me and I was introduce to some real good vendor plugs. So my message to anybody reading this kind of going through a similar situation as me or looking to get into some sort of business it that, “Rome was not built in a day”. When you first start, do not focus on the money cause it will be days no money will come in. Focus on perfecting your craft and hustle, the money will come trust me. Stay down till you come up, it will all make sense later.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d prolly take my best friend to Lancaster in Fort Worth, Texas or Berry St also located in Fort Worth, Texas. Those are two of the most prestige’s and beautiful sights seeing places to see outside of Las Vegas Trails. But if I really wanted to show my best friend a real great time, we would definitely have to go to Bora Bora. I have never been so it would be hard to explain what all we would do but I know we would be seeing a beautiful place with breathe of peace and mind. I love seeing the clear blue water and the little huts that people stay in while traveling there. The other place we would go would be to visit Santorini. That place is another place I have never been to but definitely love seeing all the pictures and reviews I get from other previous travelers. But those are some of my places I would love to go travel with a best friend and I am pretty sure we would have a blast. Again, if you ever in Fort Worth and want to see some beautiful sights or have an adventure, definitely stop by Berry St. or Lancaster St for some fun adventures.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I have to shout out my powerful and almighty God for being there and guiding me through some very difficult times as well as a beautiful journey. I have to thank my city Forth Worth, Texas as well as Langston University and Oklahoma for being my steppin grounds and places where I first started. Those two places are also my biggest supporters. I have to give special shouts to both my oldest sister Key and my guy Juice (@realjucedesigns). If it was not for my sister taking me in, only God know where I would be or ended up. That’s my baby there she really helped me get through a lot. My guy juice is the real brains of this whole operation, he literally does EVERYTHING for my brand from logos, web designs, graphics, videos, you name it he can get it done for sure! I would also like to thank the “PAYOLA FAMILY”, my friends, my peers, and the haters. If you do not have haters, trust me you not doing something right! And last but definitely not least, shout to my nun profit organization Glen Garden University also know as 44 Gangster Hard Head. This very special organization molded me into the person that I am today. Also, for a recommendation for a book, I recommend EVERYBODY read Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki
