We had the good fortune of connecting with Janna Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting Genial Assist was about merging my expertise with my passion. With my background in Criminal Justice and certification in Legal Administration, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for the law. Even though I’m not using my degree in a traditional sense, I saw an opportunity to bring that knowledge into the notary space by offering convenience and professionalism to clients who value discretion and efficiency. But beyond that, I wanted the flexibility to create a life where I could be fully present for my son, Kaido, while building generational wealth. Genial Assist gives me the power to do both—protecting my clients’ legal interests while securing a future where I’m in control of my time and finances.

What should our readers know about your business?
Genial Assist was created from my desire to simplify essential processes for people while keeping a personal, human touch. What sets me apart is my approach—I don’t just offer services, I offer solutions that empower my clients. Whether it’s notary services, consulting, or business support, I want people to feel informed, confident, and in control.

As a Notary Public, I see a future where these services are more accessible, streamlined, and digital. My goal is to modernize the notary experience, making it easier for individuals and businesses to handle their most important documents with efficiency and trust. But beyond that, I want to educate and guide people—helping them understand the “why” behind the process, not just the “how.”

My passion has always been the law, but rather than following a traditional path with my criminal justice degree, I’ve found a way to integrate that knowledge into what I do every day. Through education, consulting, and innovation, I get to support others in ways that go beyond just stamping a document—I help them navigate important decisions with clarity and ease.

Getting here wasn’t without its challenges, but I’ve learned that adaptability and a genuine desire to serve others go a long way. Success isn’t about doing things the way they’ve always been done—it’s about finding new ways to bring value.

Genial Assist is more than a business; it’s a bridge between tradition and innovation. I want people to know that whether they need notary services, guidance, or just someone to help make things simpler, I’m here to bring solutions that fit the way we live and work today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Tyler, TX, I’d make sure they experienced the best of everything this area has to offer. We’d start with a cozy brunch at The Foundry Coffee House, then take a stroll through Downtown Tyler to explore the local shops and galleries. For lunch, we’d hit Stanley’s Famous Pit Bar-B-Q, and after that, maybe go kayaking at Tyler State Park. In the evening, we’d enjoy drinks at Roast Social Kitchen and have a delicious dinner at Prime 102. On the second day, we’d hike at Tyler State Park, then grab some tasty BBQ at Stanley’s before heading to ETX Brewing Co. for drinks and live music at Republic Icehouse.

We’d dedicate Day 3 to culture, starting with a visit to the Tyler Museum of Art, followed by lunch at Culture ETX, then a walk through the beautiful Tyler Rose Garden. Dinner would be at Dakotas for a more refined experience. A spa day would be a must on Day 4 at The Rose Spa of Tyler, followed by shopping in Downtown Tyler and at Broadway Square Mall. For a little wine-tasting experience, we’d stop by Kiepersol Winery. Day 5 would be perfect for a day trip to Canton for First Monday Trade Days or exploring Edom, TX, before heading to Cowboys for a fun night of dancing.

Day 6 would bring some excitement with axe throwing at Lumberjacks, a visit to an escape room, or a little bit of bowling and arcade fun at Times Square Grand Slam. Finally, Day 7 would be a relaxing day with a last brunch at Jack Ryan’s Steak & Chophouse, followed by a scenic drive to wrap up a memorable week. From nature and culture to great food and fun activities, it would be a week full of unforgettable moments!
