We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Forney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janet, are you self-funded or investor funded? If you could start over, would you make the same choice?
I am self-funded.

There is nothing that I would have changed or done differently. I have gained so much from the failed attempts as well as the successful moments.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I breathe creativity. I have no intentions of leaving anything that God has gifted me to do undone. Whatever tool that he has placed in my hand for whatever season, I am able to master. My eyes, ears and heart are open and attentive to whatever needs to be accomplished, knowing that what I do serves more than myself. I am excited for the many levels that exist within my business from singer, poet, author director to working with children and adults in community and theatrical events. I am extremely excited about this new venture in film that I am on. Since we last talked I wrote, produced, and directed “Beautiful,” a play paying homage to African American designers. This was held at the Irving Arts for black history month this year. I currently have a film that has been selected for several film festivals of which I am the writer, executive producer and I appear briefly in the film as a singer. The film is called “Love You Later” directed by Charles W. Bush. Amid the pandemic I am continuing to work on songs and videos to promote a positive message of hope. I am also working on a children’s book with illustrator Zina Martin as well as developing videos to help with early childhood education via social media. I would say that business is good. In the middle of all that we are going through as a country, I have learned to be humble and not take these blessings for granted. I have learned to watch, be quiet, in some cases take the lower seat knowing that God would assault me when it was my turn. I have learned to applaud others, sincerely and to respect those who were there to teach me. On the other hand, I have learned to speak up at the appropriate time, take charge when my time comes and master the task at hand. I have learned to be a good steward of my crafts and guard them as they are gifts from God. What do I want the world to know about my Me or my brand? ~ “There’s so much more to come!”

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If those great spots were a part of a story it would read like this.

It’s Sunday afternoon the sun is shining, we’ve just spent an exceptional time in worship at the Potter’s House of Dallas, Bishop T.D. Jakes. We take a drive to Fort Worth’s Sundance square for lunch and some much-needed retail therapy. We spend the afternoon there just shopping and oh the laughter! Monday 9 am Coffee at White Rhino coffee house turns into late afternoon chatter on their front porch. Tuesday “I’ve got the perfect movie to see at 6pm downtown Dallas at Cinepolis luxury cinema drinks after?” Wednesday ‘Friends are coming over to hang out on my deck join us. It’s always fun besides, I would love for you to meet them and the food is always good.” Thursday Breakfast at Dick’s Cafe in Cedar Hill. “We’ll get there early because the line is always out the door. Then let’s head to the museums in Dallas and hang out at Klyde Warren park downtown.” Friday “Oh, I hear Sheran Keyton is at the Scat lounge in Fort Worth, Let’s go. She’s awesome and I always miss her, not this time!” Saturday “Thanks for supporting me at The Jazz Ambience events at Intrinsic SmokeHouse and Brewery with Darren Dodd and Janet Forney in the house! I hope you enjoy the show. I hope we have the show…Go away COVID!!! Oh, and the food is on point with drinks from the taps. Sunday … and just like that we were off to the airport! “I hope whoever is reading this is reading it with relaxing jazz in the background and a glass of wine.” (laughing) COVID go away!!!
