We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamila Udofiah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamila, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Birth connects all of us!
As a certified holistic doula and dedicated community activist, I champion the normalization of doula care across all spheres. My mission is to foster supportive communities where families feel confident in their birthing choices, while also mentoring new doulas to grow from passion into purpose. Through advocacy and education, I strive to strengthen both the birthing community and the doulas who serve it.

What should our readers know about your business?
Creation of B.R. Doula Services—
After having my kids, I quickly realized how amazing birth is. During my last two births, something was missing—my mother. She had passed away before I welcomed those babies, and in those moments, I longed for her presence. I needed someone to hold my hand, to reassure me that everything would be okay.

In my search for that support, I found a birth worker who could hold space for my mother while I birthed my babies. I FOUND A DOULA! She cared for me and my family, reminded me of my own strength, and told me, “You can do this!” With her guidance, I tapped into my innate ability to give birth—and I did so boldly.

That experience changed me forever. In that moment, I made a commitment to help other families find the same support, strength, and confidence.

To me, birth is spiritual and empowering. It’s a sacred time when families bond and celebrate life. Birth doesn’t have to be frightening. You have the right to birth your way—ask questions, embrace every moment because you’re never going to get it back.

Over the past nine years of supporting families in birth work, I pride myself on creating nurturing, and caring relationships. Making sure my clients receive valuable information and resources. Encouraging active fatherhood by uplifting dads during the birth experience—empowering them to fully embrace their role as Birth Guardians for their families. Most importantly, I maintain open lines of supportive dialogue before, during, and after birth. I’m with you well before active labor, walking beside you throughout your entire birth experience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Florida born and raised, I’m a line-dancing queen with a love for seafood and cultural foods. Hand me a sizzling platter of chargrilled garlic-parmesan oysters and I’m all smiles. And when it comes to the vibrant tastes of Caribbean and African cuisine, I’m immediately drawn in—whether it’s the sweet, caramelized plantains, the comforting warmth of curry chicken, or a hearty bowl of Nigerian egusi or okra soup. Woowee!…nothing but good eating.

If my besties came to town, we’d kick things off by line dancing with the one and only Xtremesteppa_Dandrea—because nothing sets the vibe like music and movement. After working up an appetite, we’d head to Fish City Grill for a seafood feast, then close out the night at Jollof Haus and Reggae Jerkhut, savoring flavors that feel like home, culture, and pure joy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my own family and all of the incredible families I’ve had the honor of serving throughout my doula mission. Your strength, vulnerability, and trust have left a lasting impact on me.

To my husband and our children, I want to thank you for your unwavering support. Also, to the families I’ve walked alongside during some of life’s most sacred moments, your journeys have been a source of deep inspiration. You’ve all helped shape the doula I am today, and I carry your stories with gratitude and great pride.
