We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Goode and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I remembered being a little girl watching my grandmother and my mother put on their make up and their jewelry; plus my grandmother putting on her red lipstick and fixing her hair in curlers. I learned then that women were beautiful even as a little girl. I just wanted to be beautiful like them, that’s how I got to where I am today. I rebranded myself from the inspiration that came from my mother and my grandmother. So now my goal is to photograph every woman I come in contact with and show them just how beautiful they truly are and it doesn’t matter your size, your height, or your ethnic background; that stuff doesn’t matter, you are beautiful and I want to give you the experience of being pampered and show you in portraits that you truly are beautiful and give you back the confidence that you may have lost along the way…

Who I help and why, All Women, because I went through more than any woman ever should in my own past, so I want to give my heart and my skills to show them that they matter; WOMEN MATTER!!!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I hope what sets me apart from others; is that I truly believe that all women are beautiful and they deserve to know that. I want to tell their story and show them that they matter at any age! I provide a magazine inspired makeover experience for everyday women, with professional hair & make up styling – celebrating the beauty of being a woman at any age. I want to take the best photographs that they’ve ever seen of themselves.

Every woman deserves to have a gorgeous portrait of herself. It would be my absolute privilege to capture their beauty and to create gorgeous images that they will treasure forever and leave as their legacy to their loved ones. Whether it’s something they want to do as a little gift to themselves to celebrate a special milestone in their life or it’s something they want to share with their loved ones that they can cherish and pass down to generations and generations to come.

This is a perfect opportunity for a special day of pampering or a fun girls day out. They can enjoy this special day with their sister, mom, best friend, daughter or their special loved one at no extra charge. They don’t need to worry about not knowing how to pose or about being photogenic, as I will coach and kindly direct them through their entire personalized photoshoot.

I’m most proud when I see a clients face light up when they see their prints on the reveal wall, or they tell me, “thank you for making me feel beautiful again!” I get excited every time I book another session because I know I get to work with another beautiful person and create something they can cherish for years to come.

I’ve been doing this for 25+ years and as much as I love it and it’s my passion, it was never easy and it’s just as hard today. It’s a lot of hard work, late nights up editing, marketing, ordering and so much more. I do everything myself, no assistant, yet! My husband keeps telling me to get an assistant, I will one day haha.

I have learned so much about the photography industry over the years, from my editing skills to marketing and the business side of things. There is so much that truly goes in to running a successful photography business. I would tell others to educate yourself first, learn your camera fully, learn how to edit and make sure that you are ready to work 24/7, and make sure that you are 100% educated before you start charging; because it’s a lot of hard work!

I want to be known for telling a woman’s story through her portraits… and showing her that she has always had beauty within herself she just needed to be reminded. I also love fashion and editorial photography, I would love to create work that would be seen all over the world, magazines, billboards and Time Square in NYC; haha a girl can dream, right?

I strive to create and be better with every shoot!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I love to go to “The Grove” in Tyler, and have a margarita and their sweet potato fries; so I would definitely take my bestie there! Dakota’s Steak House is amazing!!! Best steak in East Texas! There’s an amazing chocolate store called, “Lindale Candy Co” in Lindale Texas that we would certainly go to, I swear by their homemade chocolate and caramels candies, just wow!

We might even go up to a local pool hall and shoot a game of pool, I have been known to win a title or two; I played APA for many years and had a few trips to Vegas! I love the game!

Other than all that, I’m a lover of my balcony at home, just sitting out and enjoying a relaxing evening with my favorite glass of wine and my husbands company.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

Wow! I’ve been on this journey mostly by myself, for probably the first 20+ years; but for the last 4 years since I met my husband, he has been my biggest cheerleader and fan. He has supported me and encouraged me to follow my heart and make my dreams come true. My husband, Shane, is the reason I opened my studio in 2021, in the Azalea District, located in Tyler Texas; He told me to just go for it and he would be there to help me no matter what! To be honest I never had that kind of love and support before.

I’m also a member of some networking groups in my area that have some amazing members and they are also great supporters and fans, one of my favorite groups is the HER (Help Each other Rise) Network, founded by Casi Caton; she’s an amazing woman, friend and all around human being! I have a group of ladies that I adore, Shelly, Samantha, Hannah, Lana and so many more; you all know who you are!

But I have to say that I wouldn’t be a luxury portrait photographer focusing on all women if it wasn’t for the two most important women in my life; my late mother, Judy Marie Oliver and my late grandmother, Gracie Marie Bond. Those ladies showed me true beauty is in all of us, to never judge another by their looks, I’m so grateful for that lesson! #justiceforjudymarie
