We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake, Skip, and Marshall Ray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake, Skip, and Marshall, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Seeing success in our clients/athletes is the greatest motivator for us and nothing makes us happier. Success can be getting faster, stronger, leaner, making the starting line-up for a sports team, or even gaining more confidence in oneself. Seeing these small victories day by day eventually add up to the big major victories is why we do what we do.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are Dynamis Sports Performance, DSP for short. Dynamis is a Greek word meaning “the will to fight” or “the will to win”. We do our best to bring grow that dynamis in every athlete and client we have.
I would say we got to where we are by truly caring for our athletes and clients, and not just viewing them as revenue. We do this by individualizing each athletes training as much as possible, always staying conscious of what they are doing in their other trainings and practices, and keeping track of each athlete’s data so we can accurately track their progress.
The business growth aspect has definitely not been easy, and it is something we still struggle with but are getting better every week. As a family who didn’t grow up in this area, we started this business not knowing any sports coaches, any teams, and had no connections with any groups or organizations that could benefit the business. We are constantly trying to meet new people and get our name out there. We sponsor charity and/or sports events, host outdoor speed clinics, and try to team up with other local businesses as much as possible.
The biggest lesson we’ve learned along the way from a business standpoint is to be honest. Not that we had a problem with lying or anything like that, but there have been times where you want to give one client a discount to help them out, or an athlete isn’t quite ready to step up to a more advanced exercise, but they really want to. Moments like those, even if it’s harder to do, being honest and fair is the best thing for both you and the client/athlete.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever friends or family come to visit these are our go-to places to go and things to do.
– Dinner, drinks, and live music at Marty B’s is a must
– Take the boat out to wake surf on lake Lewisville
– Brunch at the Bartonville Store
– Go shoot some guns at 407 Gun Range
– Play a round of mini golf at The Puttery in the Colony
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to shoutout Dr. Alex Linton with Meant2Move TX. Dr. Alex does chiropractic, dry needling, rehab, and many other types of recovery practices. Alex has been operating out of our DSP facility in Argyle for about a year now and we have loved the partnership. We have a synergistic relationship where he sends us athletes that need to better their performance, and we send him clients that need an injury checked out or a boost in recovery.
