Hi Jaide, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risk is exactly how I got to where I am now. I have always been a dream chaser and the type to “get it by any means necessary”. Every decision I have made for my business was a risk to take, for example investing thousands of dollars into inventory, creating services and pricing them, posting ads on social media, creating a one stop shop for hair extension services. Taking all of these risks, I never knew if they would actually help me thrive or help me get farther in my career. But even when I “failed”, when these risks didn’t go as planned .. I still learned a lesson and applied it to my business strategy.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am Jaide Island, owner and hairstylist for Island Beauty Bar LLC. I specialize in gluelesd lace wigs, sew ins, and maintaining natural hair. Providing hair extensions with those services has put me in a lane of my own. When I first started doing hair, at age 14 out of my moms kitchen, I was just taking clients based on what they wanted, trying to gain experience in different things. As time went along, I started to become more experienced in lace installs and virgin hair bundles so I made that my niche. I created appointment options where you can book your service and purchase your too quality hair extensions all at once! During the pandemic, I took a class to learn how to make glueless wigs and It opened so many service options for my clients. Building these type of services, took a lot of effort because I had to work on skin tone matching, creating hairlines, different baby hair methods, the best type of lace fabric for these services, the right vendors to get your products from. There were so many factors to becoming a consistent artist in these services because clients want the most natural and convenient look. With the skills I have gained, you get exactly that at Island Beauty Bar. I faced many challenges being a hairstylist and small business owner but what got me through was always my faith, determination, and the hustle in my blood! As a service provider, it can be very hard working with different types of people. One lesson I learned was I am exactly what certain people need, but I am not needed for everyone. I pay a lot of attention to my audience and what they need. I also learned to trust myself and my goals, society can make you feel as if you’re not doing enough or as good as others. But with my faith in the most high, I know I am exactly where I am supposed to be and where I am is always where I prayed to be before. So I am very thankful for how far I have come and where I am going. I want to encourage others to chase their dreams daily and to never give up. When you put your full trust in yourself and what you want to do, you will manifest it. Everything I have done for myself and for my business, I motivated myself to work on it every day! Even on my worst days, I couldn’t stand the thought of failing. Also, never stop learning. You will always see something new at Island Beauty, the world is forever changing and there is always more out there than just what we know!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im from Texas so just a 3 hr drive to Dallas is my typical weekend getaway! But me and my girls like to hang out at the collective or sunset patio bar for brunch. Saints night club is always lit from 10-2 then you followup with the after hours at Aces ! My favorite chill spot is Lake hefner, I love looking out into the water and enjoying the breeze.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I come from a community where very little thrive in entrepreneurship. Most of the people I know work corporate jobs. So being one of the first in my family to follow a different route was a big change & I received unconditional support and encouragement from my loved ones. From my grandparents, mom, siblings, to my aunts/uncles, and cousins. Shout out to y’all for keeping me going – I wouldn’t be where I am if I didn’t have ya next to me! To my Mentor/Friend – Dami , thank you for all of your support and your guidance. From cosmetology school to now, you have helped me grow in a major way! I will love you forever. To my clients turned bestest friends, Nae & Toni – thank you for your love and support! You both showed me friendship in a way I have never experienced & your loyalty is unmatched! To my many clients, thank you for trusting me with your tresses and showing me support in private & public. My “word of mouth” clientele is what keeps my business going and it’s all because of you girlies! Im truly blessed to have all of the people around me.
