We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacquetta Fisher-Scharnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacquetta, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There were many thought processes behind starting my own soap business though the most important one, was simple; I wanted to create a soap that’s sensitive enough that anyone with severe skin conditions could use it. All natural, organic, handmade and locally made soap. A soap so intricate & natural that all of it’s ingredients a edible (not the finished product of course,) I want the consumer to know exactly what they are putting onto their bodies.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art and my passion is soap making. I love everything about it, the chemistry and the many possibilities. What sets me apart from other soap makers is that my product is all natural and made in small batches. I’m a owner who likes to engage with my customers. It makes me proud to be able to create customized soaps if a certain product is not sensitive enough for them.

I am most proud of the relationships and opportunities my business has given to me. Was it easy? No. It takes a lot of time, money, patience and trial and error. I’ve failed many times but from each of those failures I’ve learned important lessons. Being an entrepreneur will definitely teach anyone to be patient. Success doesn’t happen over night. As with any business there are challenges. My biggest challenge was learning to be consistent. Consistency is key in business.

I’d like the world to know that; you can truly achieve your dreams if you put forth the effort you’ll get there. It’s easier said than done, but its achievable.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’re ever in Fort Worth and looking for good seafood you must try Boorays Of New Orleans Seafood and Soul food, it’s the absolute best during crawfish season. Looking for a nice social spot you gotta try Club Ritzy’s its both a jaz bar & R&B lounge every weekend the crowd is grown and sexy and the drinks and food are superb. In my opinion some of the most fun, interesting and exciting places are in the downtown area. There’s many different types of foods and fun to choose from, including family fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my son, Dedrick Jr. he’s the reason I started DBH&H, After many failed attempts using so many different medicated soaps, creams and lotions that didn’t work for him, I formulated a product that works for him and many others. That one idea I had has, allowed me to meet individuals from all walks of life and I love it. I’d also like to shouout my mother, she believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, she has always been my biggest supporter and fan.
