We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Mendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacqueline, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
If you would have asked me a few years ago if I wanted to start my own business, that would have been the last thing on my mind. My immediate answer would have been ‘heck no!’ But over time, I started to outgrow my last job and then decided to pursue real estate. Being a real estate agent has been very tough but also very rewarding. One of the things I love the most is that real estate is very transparent. If you put in the hard work, it shows. I also love using my abilities to help clients find the right home for them. I am a second-generation agent and it helps when I am finding the right deals on my client’s behalf.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Growing up, I would spend my summer breaks showing houses with my mom. Back then, I wanted to stay home and watch That’s So Raven on Disney Channel but now when I look back, I am glad she took me with her because I got to learn the business at an early age. I started as a real estate assistant two years ago, then got my license last year and I love every moment. There are some challenges that every agent faces like ‘how am I going to generate leads? what happens if this deal falls through?’ If you grow your network and learn from the best, you will do just fine. Real Estate has taught me the value of time. Time is the only thing we cannot get back so I learned to use it wisely and invest in the things that matter. I take my job very seriously and care about clients and want them to know I am with them every step of the way. My clients’ requirements, concerns, and preferences are important to me. It is not just a transaction. Home-buying is one of the biggest investments you can make in your lifetime and it matters who you pick to represent you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start with going to the DMA, I love art and then have to pay a visit to the Sixth-Floor Museum! I love US History. There are also great local restaurants to pick from, depending on what my friend likes, Rise No. 1 for a nice out of town vibe, Wulf Burger, the Monarch for a nice view, Tower of the Americas(Reunion Tower). And since it is Texas, we have to go visit the Stockyards in Fort Worth and visit the boutiques and such. We would visit the Japanese Gardens in Fort Worth as well. If the weather was nice, we would spend time at parks and enjoy the scenery. I would also take my friend to the Dallas Arboretum and the Perot Museum.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom is my hero. Not just because she raised me to be the person I am today but because she taught me everything I know when it comes to helping others in and out of real estate. The most important thing is for others to know that you care about them. We are meant to help others on this Earth. She is not only one of my biggest support systems, but a great role model and an excellent mentor.
