We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacey Lowell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacey, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Row House is a truly more than just a place to sweat, and I know this from my own experience of being a member, myself. Our studio is a space where athletes of all types can come together and be a part of something that inspires you every single day. Because fitness can be a very vulnerable part of life, a lot of people come to us because they are just beginning their relationship with fitness and are looking for something low-impact that they can stay safe doing. But the incredible thing about Row House is that during your first class, you could be rowing next to someone that is on their 500th class, and although you both are generating your own intensity, you are both working towards a common goal as a crew! In the boat, everyone has a purpose, and our fantastic coaches help facilitate that environment. No matter where you are on your fitness journey, there is a place for you to reach your goals with an incredible community alongside you to help you keep moving forward. Once you’re in the boat, you’re a part of our crew.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
If you were to tell me 10 years ago that I would be doing what I’m doing today, I might believe that I would end up being a coach, but I would never have expected to be a manager of a fitness studio. I have a master’s degree in Education, and was on my 5th year of teaching before I became a coach. I started to slowly notice that my passion for Row House was heavily outweighing my passion for teaching. I loved my students and the families I got to work with each year, but I felt different in my role as a coach than as a teacher, and I ultimately quit after my 6th year. That was a really difficult leap of faith, though, because this management position that I have now wasn’t even open! I didn’t have a back-up plan–I just felt it in my gut that there was more I could do with my skills and passions, and I knew that Row House was where I was going to do the most good. But it’s still scary. Every day I’m pushed, and every day I learn so much more. I don’t have a business degree or a background in sales, and at first I wasn’t sure if this was something I was going to be right for. But one day early in my new career, I woke up and just decided that I was going to be right for this, it was just going to take a lot of practice and experience to get there. What I’m really starting to see is that at the end of the day, if you have a passion for the service you’re offering to your community and you truly believe in it, your community is going to want to be a part of that. And with each day, my team and I get better and better because we learn and grow from each other. We have a very extensive knowledge of rowing and Row House because almost all of us started out as members. All of us have had our own personal relationships with fitness and exercise, and we know how scary it can be to try something new and be open to vulnerability. We have such a huge desire to build our boat, and we want this for every new person who wants to learn more about Row House. I know what it’s like to be a part of the crew as a first-time rower. I know from experience how hard our coaches work to uphold the Row House brand. And now I have the pleasure of sharing such an amazing experience to others and get to help change their lives like mine was changed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My husband and I loved discovering the Keller Farmers Market when we first moved here. There’s so many things to explore and we loved being able to see everyone come together to support local vendors.

We would definitely visit 151 Coffee almost every day. We love the chill atmosphere and it’s definitely a place you can sit and have conversations with people.

We also love the Keller Chop House and The Station Patio–we use those spot as our nights out on the town.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Row House and everything the brand embodies deserves this shoutout. I grew up as an athlete (swimming) and dedicated my entire adolescent and early adult life to that identity. But like so many young athletes, my career ended due to an injury, and there wasn’t much I could do after that to stay in shape. As more time went on, the person I was became dimmer and dimmer, until I was lost. A few years later, my fiancé and I moved to the Keller area, and I happened to drive past Row House, having no idea what it was. Curiosity got the better of me–I signed up for my first class, and became a member right then and there. I found a place where I could start to find myself again, lose the weight I had put on, strengthen my heart and muscles, and at the same time, met so many incredible life-long friends. I loved everything that Row House represented for me, my crew, and my community, that I trained to become a coach, and was very fortunate enough to have taken on the role as General Manager a year later. I have had the absolute pleasure of introducing Row House to so many more people after me, and nothing makes me happier than watching them go through their own journeys. I love that I get to be a part of a place that can do so much good for so many more people.
