We had the good fortune of connecting with J. Kyle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As I spent time praying about how to proceed in business and what my niche would be, God told me that He was going to use me to help others heal their broken identities, just like he did for me. I knew, that as a man who had struggled with his own identity and at one point, was in desperate need of community, it was my God-given duty to create a safe space and place for men to have as they were on the journey of identity themselves.

What should our readers know about your business?

There is overwhelming research that shows the magnitude of destruction and distress that plagues our communities when men are physically, mentally, and emotionally absent. Sadly, there aren’t enough safe places/spaces for men to unlearn the toxic traits of misguided manhood that gets perpetuated through society and generational identity bondage. The rebuilding, restoring and rebranding of the image of God in men needs intentionality and exclusivity in its efforts. This why my company, “Re:BrandTheMan (RBTM), exists and it where we come into the picture.

We are a 501(c3) christian nonprofit organization, whose primary goal is to help men heal from their broken identities and help them discover, who, where and why they are. I founded RBTM, because I was that broken man. I was in a place in life where I did not know who I was. I found myself in an unfamiliar place where life was requiring me to be a man that I did not know how to be. In my search for answers, I could not find a community with the resources I needed to help me detox, heal and grow. I was in search for identity and purpose. Eventually, God led me to three individuals, a therapist and a life coach and a friend. God used these three to walk me through the mountains and valleys of what it meant to be a man… The man God intended for me to be.

This journey wasn’t easy. If not for the support system and community that God gave me I would’ve never found the strength needed to overcome the challenges that were keeping me from success. I learned that in order for me to be who God created me to be, I first had to be humbled. I had to accept that I did not know how to navigate life on my own. I had to disassociate myself from my prideful thinking and the shallow experiences that led me to believe I could do it all by myself. Once I learned this lesson, I was left porous and in a position to receive the truth of who and what, God made me to be. I learned that my identity was not found in the totality of success or failure, but in who and whatever God said I am.

These lessons were so impactful that God had me use them to write a book about identity called, “I Am H.I.S. : Becoming The Man For His Plan”. This past summer, I was blessed with my first global publishing deal with Trilogy Christian Publishing, the publishing division of TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network), which is the largest christian television broadcasting company in the world. The book has been placed on Amazon as well as Barnes & Nobles’ website. It’s my prayer is that the book becomes a tool for others who are in need of guidance as they are discovering who they are in God.

It’s important for people (specifically, but not exclusively men) to know, that every building has a foundation. It doesn’t matter how many people pass by the building the building, it doesn’t matter how many people walk or work inside the building. The only person who is qualified and credited for the creation of the building’s foundation is the architect who designed it. Even though construction workers dig the dirt and pour the concrete, they can only do it according to the structural design created and given to them by the architect.

In the same way that every building has a foundation, every hu(man) has an identity. It does not matter how many people are around you, it doesn’t matter how many people are in your life, the only one who is qualified and should be credited with creating your foundation a.k.a. your identity, is the architect who designed it. That credit can not be given to your mother or father because sexual conception, and even medically assisted conception, is the mere physical labor that creates a physical baby according to the structural design of humanity’s architect which is God

Please remember that the identity that God has given to every individual, is the foundation of the glorious life He built for each and every one of them. If you want your life to stand tall and strong for the duration of your life, then make sure you’re standing on the foundation of identity that was created by God, for you!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Being a native New Yorker and having only been in Texas since 2019, I find myself still in search of great food and hangout finds, but if I had a friend visiting me for a week, based on what I’ve experienced so far, the itinerary would look something like this:

Sunday: Church service at Embassy City Church in Irving, TX followed by brunch at Tupelo Honey (also in Irving) or the Biscuit Bar in Arlington, then maybe a stroll around the Galleria Mall in Dallas.

Monday: A mid afternoon tour of AT&T STADIUM aka Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, making sure to stop by the gift shop there to get some exclusive cowboys gear. That would be followed up by food and fun at Texas Live next door

Tuesday – Thursday: It would be a combination of chill mode activities like some museums, shopping and scenic driving (NOT during rush hour traffic tho… aint nobody got time for that!!). That drive WILL include a trip to Buc-ees in either Denton or Ennis because how can you step foot on Texas soil and not go to buc-ees?! We’ll do some fun stuff like axe throwing, bowling or a trip down “gaming memory lane” at Black Dog Arcade in Arlington where they have all the classic arcade games for one price.

We will hit a few mom n’ pop eat spots like madea’s in Everman or Juicy’s Soul Food Cafe in Ft. Worth, but don’t have any plans after eating at either one because it’s going to give you a case of the “itis” that is guaranteed to make you nap for at least 2 hours! I love the movies so eventually we’d head to Studio Movie Grill (just about any location in the dfw) for dinner and a movie and each night would end with a trip to either Crumbl Cookie or Tiff’s Treats (or both.. why not!??!)

Fri: We would venture out to find an awesome food truck and a relaxing coffee spots with a great bakery selection for lunch and then head to a friend’s house for game night and drinks.

Sat: We take the day to relax, eat at home, pack and get ready to depart on Sunday afternoon.

Sun: We’ll go to the early morning service back at Embassy City Church and then head to DFW airport and say our goodbyes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The persons I dedicate this shoutout to are the 4 men who have been the most impactful forms of support in my identity journey: My Lord & Savior Jesus Christ who has given me my purpose, voice and identity. Kevin Thornton who has been a guiding light during the darkest times of my life. He is my closest friend & confidant. John Mosley, my friend, brother, mentor & business partner who is single-handedly one of the most authentic men I’ve ever known. Last but not least, Chad Harrigan, he is not only my business and life coach but he is the type of friend every man needs. He is the friend that will always tell you what you need to hear as opposed to telling you what you want to hear.
