We had the good fortune of connecting with Hillary Amakwe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hillary, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When starting momentum beauty academy, I wanted to be a stepping stone for students to reach their highest potential. When you learn something the right way it lowers the chances of error or burn out in the industry. I truly think it’s apart of my purpose in life to educate people. I want to leave earth better than when I came haha!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Momentum Beauty Academy is a beauty school created by an actual licensed beauty professional. Quite a few school owners have not worked for actual clients and don’t know the ins and outs of the service industry itself.
Business wise, I believe I’m here by the grace of God “insert sweating emoji face”haha! It was extremely hard because I am a single mother of three. So balancing being a present mother and a business owner was a balancing act. But I was made for it so it always works out.
The only way I overcame my challenges were to have blind faith and a lot of delusion haha! God made a way out of no way many times.
A major lesson I learned along the way is to not listen to the constructive criticism of those who have not constructed things you would want in your life. People will tell you to quit because they can’t believe you can do it. Do it anyway.
I want the world to know that the beauty industry is not going anywhere. Momentum Beauty Academy is going to help raise the standard of beauty services one beauty professional at a time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start the day with kitchen and kocktails. Their food and drinks are so good. It feels like a reality show every time I visit. Then we would hang out at the virgin hotel lounge it’s super cute and classy everytime I go. The next day go to north park and be inspired by all the luxury and scenery. From there visit moxies for a cocktail and food. It’s always different people everytime. Then go to a concert because Dallas always has a concert somewhere. The next day a festival because Dallas always has some sort of festival going on. The next day have a picnic at Griggs park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The millionaire barber Chin.
