We had the good fortune of connecting with Heavenaboveall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heavenaboveall, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk is one of the most exciting things in existence. There’s a thrill to not knowing, if you knew everything then it would be boring. I think risk is also a necessary divide, it shows that a person is really dedicated to what ever they’re striving for and they’re willing to take a chance in order to make it work. It takes you to the next level mentally. Risk has played one of the biggest parts in my Career. I wake up every morning to the sun shining through my windows and reminisce on how i would not be here if it wasn’t for taking a chance on myself. There was a time I had about $600 to my name, but my intuition was telling me it was time to move forward, and take a chance. So, I moved out of my parents home, and went to a completely different state. I threw myself in the ocean and basically said swim. It wasn’t easy by any means, but the lessons i’ve learned have allowed a level of growth I don’t believe could have been achieved any other way. Another thing is to trust your intuition. A lot of times we are afraid in our minds, but that 6th sense feeling is telling us we should do it. I believe you should always trust that feeling,
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Creator of worlds. I don’t like to say artist because that doesn’t cover everything that I do. When my music is playing, I am your whole world for that 3 – 4 mins. I write all of my music, and i’ve been producing more as of lately. I take pride in expressing emotion as vivd as possible, while providing my audience with a sonic experience. I also created a clothing line/ record label called Perennial forever. It started out as a part of the music, but has since grown into its own entity. I call my music “The sounds from above.” not because my name is Heaven, but because the way I use my voice and the beats I choose/create have a very dreamy universe feel to them. It’s like you’re floating in the sky “above” even if it’s a High tempo song. I’m most excited about the way I was/am able to visualize a concept and watch it materialize. Watching your visions turn into a real material thing is a blessing I couldn’t be more thankful to receive. I also remember writing in a note book a few years back that I wanted my own brand, and I wanted to throw my own events with my own themes. It was su-real to watch both of those things materialize back to back. It has not been an easy journey, but it’s definitely been a beautiful experience. It was challenging finding an identity, finding who I wanted to be in this world and the best possible way to present that. I’m still working on it daily as I evolve as a person. It was also difficult figuring out how to create high quality clothing consistently while focusing on the most important part, the actual music. I feel it’s best to visualize where you want to be, try, and make mistakes. Make all the mistakes you can in the beginning, because you never really lose, you just learn. Visualizing where you want to be is important because then you have an aim. Even if it’s not clear to you right now, when you have an intentional goal, the world will open the possibilities to you. It’s also important to keep a journal, and write in it as consistently as possible. It can get stressful keeping all the thought’s that come with life jumbled in your head, and it’s important to have a place to release. It helps you stay centered and mindful. For me personally, it also helps me keep track of my processes. After every big thing I do whether it’s a clothing drop, or putting together an event, at the very end I write out a complete summary. I write everything I did good, everything I didn’t do so well on, and how I can make the next one better. This gives me something to always look back on, and help with future decisions. It’s also important to start developing a team. You can start by doing what you can alone, but it’s critical to have a team, even if it’s just one person. 2 brains work better than one, and it feels better having someone there that you can trust to hold you accountable. Above all, the most important thing is to believe that you can & appreciate the journey. someone can take your fingers, your car, your spouse, but no one can take away the belief you have in yourself, that’s a mental thing. Happiness and success are also mental things. People feel like they’ll be happy once they get this car, or win that award, and that is simply not true. You have to enjoy the work in the journey and find your happiness in that, because that is where you’re going to be spending most of your time. That award or accolade will only satisfy you for a moment, the journey is forever. The story of my brand: I do a segment called “word of the day” on my instagram account where i share a new word with all of my followers. One day my friend Oskar sent me a word, and I immediately connected with it. I trusted my intuition and went full throttle with it. The word is Perennial. That word means enduring or continually occurring. My brand is Perennial forever, so continually occurring ,forever. I’m very big on energy ,and I want anyone who’s wearing my clothing or listening to the music to feel connected to an unwavering source of light energy. I want them to feel like a part of the infinity, and strive to do something that will last. Whether thats smiling at someone on the street turning their day around, or finding the cure to cancer, what ever it is make sure it impacts a part of mankind.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay so that depends on if we are talking about Dallas, or Los Angeles! I’m really a home body so we’ll probably spend a lot of time at my house, or at a near by park. I’ll need to ask some friends of mine for the best places to go. But, If I was coming off the top of my mind the first place I would take them is to Lunch at Rudy’s chicken, definitely undefeated. After Rudy’s I would take them for a night in deep Ellum. I don’t have any particularly favorite places there, but I love the culture and always end up in some kind of adventure. A lot of people want to know about Whataburger when they visit Texas, so that’s a must. They would have to get my personal favorites, a patty melt, or a honey butter chicken biscuit. We would also have to spend a night on the Margaret hunt hill bridge. That place is so beautiful, and such a relaxing vibe. there’s always something happening on the bridge if the weather’s right. I’m a super out doors person so I would take them to Breckinridge park and just vibe. I spent allot of time there when I was growing up, and it definitely helped shape me. If we’re talking about Los angeles, the first place I would take them is the beach. We would probably end up at the beach more than once just because it’s the beach. I would have to let them see Santa Monica, That place is an absolute dream. I would disappoint them and show them what Hollywood really looks like, at least by the stars. West Hollywood is actually beautiful, we would take a stroll down melrose and appreciate the culture of Los Angeles. I don’t eat out much, but theres this vegan burger spot named Monty’s good burger and I absolutely love it, that’s a must. Before they left I would have to take them to a view spot at the top of the hills, you get a crazy view of all of Los Angeles.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can credit A lot of my my mindset to my Mother & Father. I am a first generation immigrant in this country. I watched both of my parents come to this country with absolutely nothing. We were staying in a one bedroom apartment in Dallas, me, my mother, my father, and my little sister, in one bedroom. I watched them go from that to 12 years later having the means to purchase a beautiful House. It just showed me the value of hard work. Even when on the surface all the cards may look stacked against you, You can still turn your story completely around and come out on top. My father always told me skill without will, is nil. It also goes back into what we discussed earlier with taking risks. My parents left our native country Zimbabwe in search of better opportunities in life, and they found it. Imagine that, leaving everything you’ve ever known from birth until adulthood to travel across an ocean just to have a chance at something better. Not even a guarantee, but just a chance. That really taught me that if theres even a glimmer of a chance, my will power will make it happen. If my parents can travel over an ocean and create an abundant life for themselves and their children, there’s nothing I can’t do. I also Credit a lot of my mindset to an audio book I found at literally the perfect time. It’s called: The Power of your subconscious mind by Joseph Murphy. This book actually changed my life. I was at a point in my life where I was getting really down on myself. I just dropped out of college and I felt that I had no direction & the things I wanted to achieve seemed absolutely impossible. That book showed me that the things I wanted to achieve in fact were impossible, but not because I was physically incapable. They were impossible because I was the one saying they were impossible. I was losing the fight before I even entered the ring. It opened my mind to the fact that literally anything is possible once you start to deeply believe. Once you start to deeply believe and put effort behind that belief, the universe begins to open its self to you. It begins to provide the tools and assistance necessary, but that all starts with you. I started looking at everything in the world, and I realized most the things are ideas from a humans mind. he or she thought & brought that into existence. I realized after listening to that book that I am in control of my destiny, and anything I desire, I can make it happen with the proper mindset and the right amount of effort. I also give credit to one of my best friends Audie Omotosho. He’s been like my rock when i’m feeling down. He always sees what I have going on and isn’t afraid to be bluntly honest with me. I believe everyone needs a person like that, a person that’s going to hold you accountable.
