We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I saw a need and I had an answer. I have worked in dentistry for decades and I have seen how scary and expensive it is. I wanted to offer teeth whitening at an affordable price and in a nice chill environment. Going to the dentist is a real fear, in fact it’s the number 2 fear amoung humans. So why would you want to go to the dentist to have a luxury teeth whitening session. Your laying there listening to all the dental drills and suction noises, that’s not relaxing. Then when your done your forced to pay anywhere from $400-700 dollars out of pocket for that treatment from the dentist office. At my studio, the vibe is relaxing and inviting. You know you have a well educated dental profesional who’s whitenong your teeth. And when your done, you are only paying $225.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started working in the dental field when I was in highschool through the work program. I was hired to file charts (we had charts back in the day) and clean and sterilize instruments. I was also responsible for developing and mountng the xrays (yes, we had actual film) and it could be time consuming. My boss Dr Rowan saw how amazing and smart I was (HA) and brought me in to help assist with patients. I was a natural at making patients feel comfortable and relax in that environment. I think my empathy for my patients came from my own childhood fear of the dentist. I eventually went to Dental Assisting school and took my career from there. I have worked in every aspect of dentistry from general to oral surgery. I truly love educating people about their oral health and what the best products to use. People will purchase the weirdest thing off of the internet for their mouths. I am avaliable to help make sure they are not wasting the time and espeacially their money!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh so much fun exists here in Denton!! It definetly depends on the time of year. Denton is the Halloween capital of Texas and that’s all 31 days of halloween related fun. October is also football season and catching a UNT football game is awesome. My offce is located on the historic Denton square and there are so many fun shops, resturants, book stores, and bars. In May and June we have free concets on the Courthouse lawn rightoutside my building, it is a great community event and has that small town feel. Lake Ray Roberts is just a short drive north and that offers lots of cool hiking, swimming and nature. And just chilling in my backyard is fun too!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give recognition to my Husband Justin Walker. Without his support this business adventure would not be possible. From day one of this idea he has been supportive and encouraging
