We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Nichol and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It all started as a way to generate secondary income when my husband decided to attend aviation school. I began bartending events in the North Dallas area during a period of rapid growth in venues seeking certified bartenders. Clients frequently asked me to add special touches to their events, and I never said no—I always found a way to deliver.
Within two years, I had taken over our garage for my business and was managing up to five events every weekend. In 2016, I partnered with another bartending company, and together we moved into our first warehouse space. That partnership marked a turning point. The first year after merging, I made the decision to leave my corporate job and focus on the business full-time.
In 2017, we had serviced 800 events. The following year, we took a major step by obtaining our own liquor license, which was a game-changer. At the time, no other bartending company in our area offered full-service bartending with the ability to sell and cater alcohol.
We were also the first in our area to start the Signature Cocktail trend. HD Liquid Catering started being known for creating beautiful cocktails and providing excellent service for our clients. These steps caused our business to explode, and we haven’t looked back since.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At HD Liquid Catering, we specialize in creating unforgettable bar experiences that bring people together. We focus on tailoring every detail to the unique needs of our clients, whether it’s a wedding, a corporate event, or a festival. This mindset has helped us become a trusted name in full-service bar catering since we began our journey in 2016.
What sets us apart is our dedication to our team and our commitment to personalization. We believe that a strong, passionate team is the heart of everything we do. Their hard work, creativity, and professionalism allow us to deliver seamless, customized experiences that reflect each client’s vision. From signature cocktails to interactive bar stations, we pride ourselves on going the extra mile to make every event extraordinary.
Our story has experienced many challenges—like many businesses, COVID was one of the most difficult periods we’ve faced. I’ll admit, I still have a little PTSD from those times, but it taught us invaluable lessons about resilience and adaptability. We leaned on each other, stayed focused on what we do best, and came out stronger on the other side.
What we’re most proud of is the relationships we’ve built along the way—with our clients and our incredible team. Our team have become a family, they’re the backbone of everything we do, and we’re so grateful for them and passion that drives us forward. Also, our clients trusting us with their most important celebrations time and again.
At HD Liquid Catering, we want the world to know that we’re more than just a bar service—we’re memory makers. We take pride in creating joyful, stress-free experiences that bring people together, one cocktail at a time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, this is such a great question! I think the vibe would depend on which best friend I’m with, but here’s what an ideal weekend might look like:
Friday night: I’d start by reserving a table at Sushi | Bar for an unforgettable sushi experience. I’d enjoy a couple of glasses of a Napa Cabernet while she sipped on bourbon cocktails as we savored 17 incredible courses of omakase. Each course is seriously better than the last, and for dessert, we’d treat ourselves to an extra round of our favorite sushi bite!
Saturday: We’ would start by checking out a local festival in the area and taking the kids along for some outdoor fun (and a break from their iPads!). Later for dinner, Dad would take over kid duty while we head to downtown McKinney for a martini at the bar at Rick’s. Afterward, we’d have dinner at Urban Grill. I’d go for the Australian Lamb Chops with chimichurri and roasted cherry tomatoes, while she’d order the Seared Scallops with creamy goat cheese polenta and tomato blanc sauce.
Sunday: We’d wrap up the weekend by taking the kids to The Dallas Arboretum, followed by lunch at Lula Mae Slaughter Dining Terrace. We’d keep it light with soup and sandwiches but go big in a bunch of desserts to share with everyone, the perfect way to end the weekend!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, my husband—he has been incredibly supportive and allows me to fully immerse myself in this crazy event life. He’s always understanding, especially when I need to tackle unexpected challenges. I also want to acknowledge the Wedding Vendors Association of North Dallas. I took over this group almost seven years ago, and it has played a significant role in my personal growth as well as the growth of my business.
