We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Pettigrew and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking a risk has played a huge part in how my company started. When starting my company people told me that it was a huge risk to take to begin a business at the young age I was. Having people say this only fueled the fire to start my company. I knew starting a company at the age of 23 was a large risk and I was a little in over my head in the beginning, but I felt that if I failed, it was okay, and I would not be out too much money. Looking back on that, I could not have chosen a better time to begin my career! Taking that risk changed my life, I would be in a very different place if I did not start my company when I did, and I am very thankful for that.
What should our readers know about your business?
I own a wedding planning and Design Business called Something Borrowed Event Company. To say this journey has been easy, would be a lie. I started my business back in 2021 and I am so thankful for how fast I have grown in such a short time. If you would have told me that I would have 32 weddings on the books for my second year in business and doing some venues that I dreamed of doing when I first started, I would have thought you were crazy. I have also added a few team members and am currently mentoring some girls as well! It is an honor to teach young girls to follow their dreams. I think that is what I would be most proud of throughout this journey as a business owner!
I would not be where I am at today without the encouragement of my friends within the industry! They have taught me so much, and are my biggest cheerleaders at every event. I will forever be thankful that this industry has brought me my best friends.
Being a business owner has not been easy! Most days are long days writing up timelines, budgets, and sending many emails. But for me, the long days are worth it to see the look on the couple’s face when I show them their ceremony/reception set up just as they imagined. There have definitely been weddings that have been more challenging than others, but I overcome them by thinking about how I can learn from any mistakes or what I could do differently next time to prevent those mistakes from happening.
I want the world to know that my company excepts everyone as clients! We believe that everyone deserves a chance to marry the love of their life. Whether it is a big or small wedding, we will help make the wedding of their dreams!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place you should take them would be to breakfast at Bread Winners Cafe in downtown Dallas. Then you should take them to North Park after to go shopping, which is a great mall! You should then head over to the Dallas Arboretum to see all the beautiful flowers that are blooming. For Lunch, you should head over to Klyde Warren Park to eat at the food trucks and then head to the Dallas World Aquarium, which is a great aquarium. After the aquarium, you should head over to Trinity Groves to take cute pictures on the bridge and then have dinner at the Paradiso in Bishop Arts. To end the night, you should head back to Trinity Groves to go to Cake Bar to get the best cake in Dallas.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Someone that I have grown very close with and begun this journey with is Allison Schmitz with Veil and Vine Coordination/Veil and Vine Photo/V+V Studio! When we first met, she and I were learning under the same mentor Leah Hudson, who also taught me everything I know to this day! Allison is someone in the community that I can always call or text to get advice on how to handle certain situations within my business and can always count on just to be there as a friend! She has taught me so much about the industry and I am so thankful I met her when I did! I am so proud to know her and be her friend, I have watched her grow so much over the years I have known her and watched her thrive at three different businesses! I am just so impressed by her every day!
