We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Eboagu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
It’s hard to mention just one thing about the nutrition field that people are probably unaware of, so I am going to quickly share my top two: One, dietitians, and nutritionists are not the same thing! Registered Dietitians (RD) are licensed and credentialed healthcare workers who undergo supervised clinical practice hours, need a graduate degree, and take national board exams. Nutritionists are less regulated, and, in many places, anyone can claim the title without even having standardized training. Second, RD’s are capable of way more than just helping people lose or gain weight. We can place feeding tubes, write the prescription for IV nutrition called TPN, help write policies for government programs, run community programs, help athletes return to play faster after an injury, etc.

What should our readers know about your business?
This is a loaded question but I love it! This company and what I get to wake up and do daily is not my doing- faith is super important to me and I know I was called to do this. I think what makes me and this company unique is who we serve and how we do it . Equipped Wellness is a faith-based company that specializes in performance nutrition for elite athletes and also adaptive nutrition for children and adults with special needs. I provide an individualized approach because every body is different and has different needs so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all option.

It definitely hasn’t been easy! Honestly, it has been the hardest but most rewarding thing I could’ve asked for. I get to live out my dream while helping people live out their dreams of getting to the next level athletically or even just health wise. It comes with challenges such as just understanding business and how to run one, lack of creativity, or understanding how and where to grow. But I overcome these challenges by living by the quote “How BIG is your want to?”, from my grandpa. It is my reminder that everyone wants to do something, its all about how bad you want it! I use it as a business owner and a dietitian, but my clients use it to remind themselves of their goals.

Some of the biggest lessons I have learned being a business owner is the importance of connecting with those around you, you’re selling yourself short if you stop learning, and be willing to take the risk! Discussing your health is a vulnerable conversation and will never happen truthfully if you don’t take the time to connect with those around you. And food is a great way to do that. As a [female] entrepreneur, if I stop learning someone else is going to do it. And take the risk, no matter what happens from it- I know it will be life-changing but if I don’t I will never grow!

I hope Equipped Wellness is known for making small impacts in people really big important lives. That its not just about nutrition but it’s about confidence, joy, and grit that we give our clients and community!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Saturday:
• Start the morning bright and early with a walk or jog on the Katy Trail. Sure, it’s a classic, but the people-watching is top-tier, especially on weekends. It’s such a Dallas staple for getting some fresh air and enjoying the city vibe.
• Afterward, head to Shugg’s Bagels for a NY-style bagel run. They never disappoint, and it’s the perfect fuel for a fun day.
• Spend the afternoon exploring Bishop Arts District, one of the most charming neighborhoods. Tejas is the perfect place for drinks, followed by a stroll through the weekend market where you can shop for local goods and maybe discover some hidden treasures.
• Cap the night off with a stop at Jimmy’s Food Store to grab some snacks, wine, or Italian specialties for a cozy night in with the girls.
Sunday:
• Start the day by attending Shoreline City Church- its just my favorite place with my favorite people!
• After church, head to Eatzis for breakfast—their French toast is absolutely to die for!.
• From there, it’s time to catch a midday game at AT&T Stadium to watch the Cowboys play. Nothing beats the energy of game day, and a friend will get a true Dallas experience.
• End the weekend with a relaxed dinner at LoRo, a cool spot that blends Asian and Texas flavors. The atmosphere is laid-back, the food is amazing, and it’s the perfect way to wind down after an exciting weekend.
Other honorable mentions: La Flor Mexican Grill, Georges Coffee, Kiest Park, Meyers Garden, the Farmers Market in the fall!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Easy, my parents and Briana Butler. My parents have pushed and challenged me in more ways than I could imagine, but they have also been my cheerleaders at every step of the way. I wouldn’t be here without them. And then my mentor, Briana Butler! She took me under her wing and showed me the ropes in the very beginning stages of my career, a lot of doors would not be opened if it wasn’t for her allowing me to sit in rooms with her.
