We had the good fortune of connecting with Haggai Goudeau and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haggai, how do you think about risk?
Honestly my business has a ton of risk if the clients don’t show or stop coming. I don’t take risk as a bad thing I take it as a part of life there is risk in everything.

My mother always told me to just take a chance a then keep rolling with whatever happens after that no matter how many risks I must make. So, I always found it to be a motivation a thrill to have a risky career/life it kept me on my toes. I never had an easy life there was always a chance it could get harder when you grow up in foster care and group homes. you eventually learn nothing is without a risk and to make every move count no matter what risk you need to take. A motto I have is “there is no try or can’t just Do it”.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a nail tech/artist meaning I do nails and different designs on them as well I do make press Ons too. I love to do mostly freestyle designs and drawings of my own on the nails. To get started doing nails it took me about 3yrs to find out what I really wanted to do I went to cosmetology school first then found out that I really had a passion for nails about 8months into school. I soon after left school and moved to Shreveport to start my nail career and it was very much so a grind to get clients as well as rebranding myself for different audiences.

Beining in Shreveport for almost 2yrs I joined a shop and did booth rent found out that it just wasn’t an environment I liked, and I didn’t also like doing booth rent so about in December of 2021 I moved to Dallas to be with my boyfriend and start a new career in Dallas scene as a nail tech where I’ve ever since building a brand and soon to open a shop March 2023. Throughout this I really learned that being a black, gay male nail tech is harder than anything causes a lot of people don’t trust or support you because of me being gay and male as a tech. I really want world to know that you have to work hard, hustle every day and not to just give up cause people discouraging you take that as motivation that you’re doing everything right and they are just jealous of that. My brand is called Goudeau Nails or as are new building salon will be called Good Ol’ Hump Nails it will be a spa salon that opens March 2023 with my business partner Nicole Humphrey. I took me years to get to a point like this and it was cause i had to struggle and really not give up no matter what people say.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, I still have a lot to explore in Dallas scene so me and my friends, family would just be exploring. But defiantly would stop at strikes and reel bowling alley. to drink and bowl for a little bit. Check out the uptown area in downtown Dallas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give recognition to my friends Shantel, Haleigh, Jakita, Twan and Travin. My mothers of course because they give me everything to keep pushing forward.
