We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grace, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started as a sports photojournalist in 2018 and found a passion for photography in the way a photo could capture various emotions and reactions at once. People were reaching out to me after seeing my sports work to see if I could do senior and family portraits. That’s when I realized I could take what I love and turn it into a business that I would be happy running every day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I specialize in several different areas that set me apart from other photographers including portraits and sports action. My business, Grace Nguyen Co., offers a multitude of services including portrait photography for seniors, families, graduates, and personal branding. I struggled with many challenges trying to start a full business on my own at 16-years-old. Three years later, I’ve learned that your age and experience don’t define your potential for success and that you need to invest yourself before you can invest in others. I am so proud of how far Grace Nguyen Co. has come. I have been able to move my business across state lines, book clients year-round, and learn new techniques to advertise my services.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The DFW area is one of the best places to visit because of everything it has to offer. I am a coffee fanatic so local coffee shops like Summer Moon in Frisco and Mudleaf Coffee in Plano will get me up and out of bed in the morning any day of the week. Legacy Food Hall in Frisco is a must offering several different eateries including an outside outdoor patio area with a live music stage and is great for hangouts and eating delicious food. Other dining options I would make sure have a spot on the itinerary are Ida Claire, Babes Chicken, and Blue Saki Sushi. I love taking strolls at Klyde Warren Park and White Rock Lake, and one of my favorite activities is the Urban Adventure Quest that takes you all around Downtown Dallas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to Kristen Nguyen, owner of Kristen Nguyen Co, and Stacie Weever, owner of Optical Poetry. Stacie was a mentor of mine from when I first started photography that helped me become a better photographer and welcomed me into the photography community. When I decided to move my business to the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area, Kristen taught me how to connect with clients in a more meaningful way and helped me find my footing in a new area. Both of these photographers are so talented and have helped Grace Nguyen Co. flourish into what it is today.
