Meet Erika Kidd | Dallas Loctician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Kidd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erika, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Not letting my kids down..
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
That’s easy, being the underdog. The proof is in my work, I just haven’t had enough exposure. I’m constantly researching; learning how to market myself and how to get engagement with my social media and website. I’m always investing in my craft and learning new techniques. I follow new loc hair trends that are surfacing and find innovative way to incorporate that into my business while still staying true to @E. I’ve never been afraid to ask for help which has been essential to my longevity and growth. I even learn from other stylist with bigger platforms than myself. Knowledge is everywhere. I take in take as much as possible, apply what aligns with my vision and pour that into my craft.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like easy going, laidback places with great food and vibes. I would say the Grand Prairie area is definitely developing and there are tons of cool places. Whether it be a date night, drinks with your girls, shopping, self care, spa days or even having a family night.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My late grandfather (Bishop Barrett). He never gave up on me even with all my hiccups in life. He kept pushing me and once he passed in 2019, I put my head down and focused solely on my hair and brand. Two others that I’d like to mention would be TheHairTrap and IsistheArtist. These two ladies are always there to answer any questions I may have. Give me pointers on what I could do better. True empowerment and sisterhood and for their kindness, I’m grateful.
