We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Desroches and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erika, how does your business help the community?
The Zero Proof Social helps the community by addressing the growing issue of loneliness, offering substance-free social events to foster deeper, more meaningful connections. With a mission to “cure loneliness one day at a time,” the organization believes that alcohol and substances can diminish the quality of relationships and hinder genuine social interactions. By creating alcohol-free spaces, The Zero Proof Social empowers individuals to socialize authentically without the pressure to drink.

The Zero Proof Social organizes events like dry happy hours, fitness socials, and speed-friending walks that are structured to accommodate individuals with social anxiety. These accessible, substance-free gatherings provide opportunities for people to form connections in a safe, inclusive environment. The group values inclusivity, intentionality, and wellness, promoting the idea that everyone deserves a sense of community without needing to alter themselves to belong.

By fostering intentional social interactions, The Zero Proof Social is helping individuals build lasting friendships and develop healthier, more connected lives, making a positive impact on both local communities and broader efforts to combat loneliness and social isolation.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is centered around creating intentional, substance-free spaces where people can connect on a deeper level. What sets my work apart is how we structure our events to be mindful of those who are socially anxious. We understand the challenge of showing up to an alcohol-free event alone, especially when you’re feeling anxious. That’s why our focus is on creating spaces where people feel comfortable connecting without the pressure to drink. We aim to empower individuals to experience socializing on their terms, helping them decide if they even want a drink, rather than feeling like they need one to fit in. I’m proud of the community we’ve built and the opportunities we provide for people to experience meaningful friendships and support in a fun, inclusive way. What excites me the most is seeing people engage in ways that truly bring them closer, whether through a fitness social or one of our mocktail events.

Getting to this point professionally has been a journey. Early on, I worked in customer service while in college, and after graduating, I was a leasing agent for a couple of years. I always knew I liked helping people, but it took time and personal growth to realize that I wanted to dedicate my work to not just helping others, but also supporting my own well-being.

It hasn’t been easy. My own struggles with mental health and loneliness deeply shaped the direction I took. After going through difficult times, I knew I wanted to focus on something that mattered to me—creating a space where connection isn’t shallow or dependent on substances. Overcoming these challenges has made me resilient and deeply empathetic. I’ve learned that vulnerability, authenticity, and persistence are essential not just in personal growth, but in creating a brand and a community that people can trust and feel a part of.

If there’s one thing I want the world to know about my brand and story, it’s that genuine connection matters. We live in a time where loneliness is rampant, and I believe that through intentional connection, we can combat this epidemic. The Zero Proof Social isn’t just about being substance-free—it’s about choosing to show up for each other with presence and purpose, offering people a space where they can feel seen and supported.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If one of my friends were visiting for the week, I’d start our adventure with a night out at Double D’s. I’d introduce them to the fantastic vibe, great music, and their impressive non-alcoholic cocktail menu. On Saturday, we’d head to Beyond the Bar for some NA beverages and karaoke, which would definitely be a fun time. On Sunday, we’d explore the Lower Greenville markets.

We’d then take a trip to the Stockyards to watch the cattle drive and maybe do a bit of shopping for a pair of boots. Throughout the week, I’d treat them to delicious meals at Catbird, Il Bracco, and Saint Ann’s. We’d go to Another Round to play mini golf and Lone Star Axe Throwing .

To round out the week, I’d plan a get together at home with friends and get some yummy donuts from The Salty. It would be a perfect blend of excitement, relaxation, and local culture.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to give a big shoutout to a few key people and sources of inspiration who’ve been instrumental in my journey. First and foremost, my mentor Chris Marshall of Sans Bar; his guidance in navigating the world of alcohol-free social spaces has been invaluable. I also want to thank the DEC (Dallas Entrepreneur Center) for providing resources and support as I grow this venture. A huge thank you to my family for their unwavering love and support, especially for letting me live with them while I pursue my dreams. Lastly, Belong by Radha Agrawal, the founder of Daybreaker, deserves recognition for inspiring me to take the leap and create a community rooted in intentional connection.

These people and resources have helped shape my path, and I’m incredibly grateful for them.
