We had the good fortune of connecting with Erick Jovan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erick, how do you define success?
I personally believe that true success transcends the definition that society gives it. Society speaks of success based on mere materialism. However, when I witness the vulnerability and fragility of material things; I realize that I cannot base my success on money, titles, or properties. All these things are very important and essential, but I don’t think they define success. Great proof of what I’m talking about is the global pandemic that we are facing right now. Material things have very little value in the face of a virus. Therefore, many of us are realizing the true essential and important things in life are beyond materialism. I define success based on the experience and connection that we can have with our Creator, God; so we can be able to find our mission in life and our purpose of life. After finding why you were created for, you become useful and unstoppable… and when you find yourself useful and become unstoppable; it is then that you can give a positive use to material things. You can use money to help the poor and needy. Your properties to share with your loved ones. Your experiences in life to heal the wound of others and the ‘rewarding feeling’ of witnessing a transformed life. You find out that you can use your titles and talents to be a great role model. And why not? Being that part of the small percentage of characters in human history who have contributed their “bit” to make a big difference in the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The entertainment industry is a platform that allows you to discover within yourself many valuable things that you didn’t know you have. But this career has its “behind the scenes” part too. It’s not all “lights, camera, and action.” There are some rejections, there are plenty of “no’s” in auditions… but I have learned to develop <principles> that are very valuable. My pros would be that you can have lots of fun working even if it’s “long hours of work.” I would like to share with the community that we all have unique talents to show the world that sets us apart from others that can be a good contribution to society. Although for many of us, it’s not an easy path, you can reach the top through faith, perseverance, and passion. I would also like to let our community know that patience, hard work and discipline are the key because: “Nothing worth having comes easy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Dallas-ForthWorth area has a lot of places to have fun at. I am a big fan of beautiful skylines… and Dallas has one of the most beautiful skylines out there. I think Reunion Tower would be a good spot to enjoy the beauty of the big city, especially at night. Deep Ellum and Downtown Dallas also offer a variety of great places to visit and spend a great time. And lastly, to refresh our souls and breath some fresh air, I would highly recommend The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to first thank God for redirecting- and giving meaning to my life. To my mom for being a good example of perseverance. And to all my teachers, coaches, and producers/directors that have given me a chance to know that dreams do come true.
