We had the good fortune of connecting with Emmanuel Boakye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emmanuel, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
One thing people don’t realize about the creative industry is how many doors it can open. My camera has not just been a tool, it’s been a key that’s unlocked access to some of the most incredible experiences. I’ve worked with government officials, construction workers, tech innovators, ministers and even athletes. These were not just jobs or collaborations they were opportunities to see the world through someone else’s eyes.

Each collaboration taught me something new – how people think, what drives them, and what matters to them. That connection has been life-changing. It enriches not just my work but how I see the world and connect with people.

This industry has always been about building bridges between people, industries, and ideas. Every story I help tell is an exchange of humanity, and that’s something I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been working as a content and communication strategist for the City of Worcester for about three years, and it’s been an incredible experience. Every day, I get to work alongside talented writers, designers, and marketing professionals to communicate with an entire municipality. My role involves using creative skills to take complex ideas and package them in ways that are digestible for people from all walks of life. It’s a privilege to make a tangible impact by helping everyday people understand what they need to know.

What sets me apart from many of my peers is my appreciation for working a 9-to-5. As someone who used to be a full-time creative, I value the stability and routine my role provides while challenging me to think creatively with very limited resources. My experience in the private sector as a content professional at a tech company also helped me hone my problem-solving abilities, particularly in breaking down overcomplicated ideas into practical solutions.

Working for the city has opened my eyes to things I never cared about before, like the importance of recycling, increasing parks in communities, and understanding the challenges people face when they don’t know where to turn for help. These lessons have deepened my sense of purpose. I’ve realized that we’re all important pieces of a much larger puzzle, and collaboration is what keeps the world turning.

I apply the same creative muscles from my 9-to-5 in other areas of my life, whether it’s designing infographics for my church, crafting pitch decks for my photography business, or brainstorming my next photo session. I know there’s always a need, and my creativity is how I strive to fill it.

The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it. I’ve learned that no role is too small to make an impact and that real fulfillment comes from finding joy in the work—whether it’s behind a desk or a camera. At the heart of my story and brand is a simple purpose: helping people connect with the ideas, information, and visuals they need to move forward, as simply and clearly as possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Morning Workout: Start the day with a gym session at Impact Fitness.
Breakfast: Hit up Salt and Pepper for a good, hearty breakfast.
Midday Stroll: Take a walk around Worcester Common. It’s not too bad of a stroll, and you get to check out the Turtle Boy statue
Lunch: Swing by Joyful Way Restaurant for some authentic Ghanaian food – Plantains and Beans are a must. Wait till you are home to dive in. It can get messy.
Afternoon Snack: Stop at Worcester Public Market. Grab a Jamaican beef patty and explore the local flavors.
Dinner: Smash burgers and waffle fries from Ziggy Bombs
Evening Vibes: Wrap up the day at Havana Nights. Good music, good food, good energy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my wife for being my biggest supporter and the unsung hero behind so much of my success, always ready to hold the camera or help finalize ideas. To my son, who drives my consistency and purpose every day.

To my siblings, Samuel, Gloria, and Graceloyes, for supporting and ‘evangelizing’ my craft behind the scenes, and my parents for instilling faith and purpose, teaching us to live with Christ at the center and serve others as we build our lives.

And finally, to my mentors, Chef Eric Adjepong, Trell Thomas, and everyone who believed in me when others didn’t, thank you for showing me what grit and consistency can achieve
