We had the good fortune of connecting with Emilya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emilya, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue an artistic or creative career in music because I believe your work should be something bigger than yourself. It should have a purpose outside of making money and leveling up until you get to the “top,” whatever that may be. I believe your career should be used to impact other people and make their lives better as well as your own. Music and creativity in general connects people on a deeper level and it is so rewarding to make a living doing what you love. That’s what makes you excited to wake up every day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is ever-evolving because I have so many different interests and inspirations. I consider myself a pop/R&B artist with an ethereal feel – emotional ballads are my love language. I think my style as an artist sets me apart because of the unique tone of my voice. I really don’t sound like anyone else. I am proud of myself for still pursuing this dream even when life gets busy or I lose vision. I can always guarantee I will be releasing music and performing until I can’t anymore. I am excited to announce that I will be releasing some new music very soon!

My journey has been a long one – starting with learning the piano in first grade. Up until now, there have been many setbacks and bumps in the road. Slow months and productive months. Nothing about the music business is ever easy, but the product is so worth it. Keeping a supportive circle and finding inspiration from outside yourself is key to overcoming challenges in the business and in motivation. I’ve learned so much about myself and have been able to use music to heal some of my deepest wounds.

I want the world to know no one is alone in their journey or story. Someone somewhere has been through what you are going through right now. That connection is so evident in music, and I hope people can find love, joy and vulnerability in my music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
An ideal week in Dallas with my best friend has to include brunch at Biscuit or Urban Rio for their $2 mimosas, dinner at Benihana’s, and definitely dessert at the Cheesecake Factory. I’d definitely like to burn some calories either doing hot yoga at Black Swan or a ballet class at Texas Ballet Theater. Sight seeing is a must, so I’d either take her to the Dallas Museum of Art or the Dallas World Aquarium. I’d love to fit in some outdoor time probably swimming or having a picnic – or a boat day if it’s really hot! If it’s cold, probably a movie and spa night! Last, I’m a night owl who loves the night life, so I’d definitely want to hit a couple clubs or bars. My favorite has to be 77 Degrees!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents deserve the greatest shoutout in my story and music journey thus far. They have been my biggest supporters since day one. My dad passed away when I was in high school, but he was my first musical influence and inspiration. Now, I get to keep pursuing my dreams in honor of him. My mom is still my biggest fan and has helped me so much along the way. I can’t thank her enough!
