We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Rekieta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” – Anaïs Nin This quote rings so true to me. It takes great courage to start any business, and I admire everyone who does. If you have the courage and drive to succeed eventually you will. I’m so thankful that God, my family, and friends gave me the courage to open EGB in 2015.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We sell Women’s clothing, accessories, furniture pieces, and home decor. At EGB we make a lot of our own accessories/home decor we sell and handwrite thank you cards for every online order. We also make hair ties or earrings that go in all of our orders as well. I’m most of proud of our growth over the past 5 years and the relationships I’ve built with customers in that time. Some of them have become great friends. Owning any business is never easy. Especially this year with the pandemic, but you just have to stay consistent and work hard. Without the relationships I had built with my customers I wouldn’t have made it. After our grand opening of our storefront in October we will be working on finalizing our own makeup line and an apparel line.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend, Lauren, and I love concerts, Italian food, truffle fries, and wine. We both own businesses so time off is rare. One day would consist of a spa day at Bliss Spa in Dallas. Another day would be spent drinking frozen sangria and eating the spaghetti and meatball pizza at Farina’s in Grapevine and walking around downtown. We would definitely hit up Cha Cha’s Mexican restaurant in Mansfield for margaritas and queso. One night we would go to a concert at the Dos Equis Pavilion. I’d take her to get coffee at the Flying Squirrel here in Mansfield. We have to have cookies from The Sweet Things Bakery here in Mansfield.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband 100% deserves some recognition. He has always believed in my dreams and made me feel like I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to. He’s EGB’s biggest supporter! Our families and our friends have also played a huge role in my business. They help with painting my spaces, setting up displays, helping me make racks, etc… Most of all though my loyal customers deserve a shout out! They’re the real MVP! I am opening a new storefront in October, and it’s all because of their love and support.
