We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has definitely changed since I first started. There were some nights I would stay up so late shipping orders or answering messages. I was so focused on growing my business I hardly had time for other things with my family. As time passed, I realized I needed to create some boundaries. Now I don’t ship on weekends, and I don’t answer messages or emails after 9pm. It’s been a struggle to find work/life balance and it’s something I still work on. Although my business is one of my top priorities, I also need to remember to have a life outside of that as well.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This year I will be celebrating being open 5 years. I am beyond excited about that! It has not been an easy road. Sometimes it’s hard to keep going when you don’t have support from others or people think your idea will never work. It can get lonely, however I am very stubborn. Once I have my mind set on something I have to see it through. So I worked very hard, sometimes day and night, to help my idea come to life. Even now there are still challenges I face everyday, but I just keep moving forward towards by goal. I’ve definitely learned to not compare myself to others. This will get you down before you even get started. I focus on staying in my own lane and just worry about my goals and dreams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many things to do in Arlington it’s hard to choose! I would definitely want to stay at Texas Live. There are so many places to eat, great views of the AT&T stadium, live bands, and the Texas Rangers are right next door too! If there was a Dallas Cowboys game going on that would definitely be on the list. It’s a great thing to experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my customers, so I definitely want to dedicate my shoutout to them. Complete strangers support me, check on me, and are my biggest cheerleaders. My Facebook group has grown to over 9,000 thanks to customers spreading the word about my boutique and adding their friends and family. I try to create a sense of family in our group and we support each other. It’s not all about the cute clothes and purses all the time. Sometimes customers need help, or are feeling down, so I love that our group supports each other. I have been blessed with the best customers ever!
