Meet Elizabeth Horton and Haylee Hehl | Co-Founders of FemaleGang

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Horton and Haylee Hehl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth and Haylee, what do you attribute your success to?
As a brand our success shows in our community. When we first started FemaleGang, it was to create apparel that empowered women- to make them feel powerful. As we grew our apparel line, we realized the community of women that were gathering around us and supporting us our journey of small business owning. We have a passion for fashion but our purpose is to be an authentic space that brings women together and truly supports one another.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When we started our brand, it was to piggy back off of Haylee’s patent product- The Rock Glove, a unique work out glove that has a peep hole for your wedding ring to show, yet still be protected. We wanted to create shirts for women with powerful quotes, etc. we had little experience in apparel and printing. Nothing new ever comes easy! It took a year or two to overcome the challenges of printing, apparel material, pricing products, marketing, etc. We started with taking pictures on our phones and modeling ourselves. Launching pieces that didn’t sell, messed up prints, losing out on money and product! -this is the name of the game! We believe in our purpose and our brand and we see our vision clearly. The best thing you can do as a small business owner is not compare yourself to the next person. Your path is different than theirs. Your success measured on a different scale. If you take away anything from our brand it’s to collaborate over compete! There is room at the top & we are bringing along anyone willing to lift others up and rise together!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Tampa has endless possibilities! You could start off your day at Armature works downtown or Sparkman wharf in Channelside to view the river with mimosas and a variety of good eats! Rent an electric scooter along the river walk and through downtown Tampa! Our fav. Is Mexican food, so we would definitely stop in at The Green Lemon or Miguelitos for some margaritas & chips and salsa! Finish with a night out with the girls hopping around downtown at Lit Cigar Lounge and end in Ybor at 7th n Grove where the hip hop vibes are unmatched! Then crossi the bridge, the Getaway is great for lunch on the water,.Then enjoy a day at the beach in St.Pete! WTR is also a great pool party spot or head over to the Hard Rock Casino & try your luck! You really can’t go wrong !
