We had the good fortune of connecting with Elisa Bergstrom and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elisa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic path for a few reasons: to have a creative outlet for my long-standing passion for art, to create something beautiful and meaningful for others, and to have flexibility while doing it. Also, years ago as a child, my grandfather told me that I had the family’s artistic gene so he wanted me to keep it going (no pressure!) and my grandmother often reminded me that once I got both of my children in school that I needed, if it was possible, to focus on the talent I was given and to do something with it. As a result, I felt like I owed it to them and to myself to get started and I’m very excited to see where this artistic endeavor takes me in the years ahead!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Calligraphy folds into the greater spectrum of art, both historically and contemporarily, so I am thrilled to be able to create written forms of art that bring meaning and beauty to people’s lives. My parents had given me a calligraphy set when I was about 12 years old and it was something that I occasionally dabbled with but it wasn’t until adulthood that I decided to get serious about it, take classes and work through a mentorship to become professional with it. Whether it’s through weddings and events, meaningful keepsakes, or calligraphy blended into larger projects, the sky is the limit with how calligraphy can be applied!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a Dallas native, I’m partial to some of the long-standing places in this city that act as “anchors” in our ever-changing landscape. Depending on how special the occasion would be, The Adolphus or Mansion for dining and overnight stays. The downtown Neiman Marcus for lunch at the Zodiak Room. The arts district: DMA, Meyerson, Nasher and Klyde Warren park for endless culture opportunities. Taking the trolley with kiddos is definitely a highlight when exploring downtown/uptown. Spending a day at the beautiful Arboretum and the adjoining White Rock Lake is always amazing. And lastly, if it’s during the holidays, grab Starbucks at Highland Park Village and admire the stunning Christmas lights!
