We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Skinner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ebony, how does your business help the community?
My business helps the community by connecting people to counseling services for individuals, couple’s and families. My business seeks to offer compassionate care for the community. Through our collaborative work with individuals and families, our services support people as they improve their emotional wellbeing , improve coping abilities and work through issues that are interfering in their lives. I assist with helping people to strengthen their internal resources and resilience. Helping individuals can have a systemic impact on families and the community as a whole. Healthy individuals and families can lead to a better connected and a more resourced community. All of which has the potential to promote collective community resilience.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Supervisor. I own Mindful Purpose-Guided Counseling Services a practice that offers Individual, Couple’s and Family Counseling. I offer in-person services in Crowley, Texas and virtual services for the surrounding area. In addition to counseling services, I offer clinical supervision to Licensed Professional Counselor Associates and Graduate Counseling Trainees. I am also an Adjunct Instructor. In my practice, I seek to work collaboratively with clients to help them achieve personal growth and emotional wellness. I believe in empowering clients to help them cultivate internal and external resources for resilience. I offer accessible services with options to fit individual needs. I offer compassionate, trauma-informed, inclusive mental health services in a welcoming non-judgmental environment.
I have had the opportunity to work in various mental health settings throughout my career. Through my work over the past 10 years, I have been inspired and motivated to pursue where I am today. After my time working in diverse clinical settings, I transitioned into Private Practice in 2021. As with any transition, there were learning curves and challenges. For me, there was a lot to learn about the business aspects of a service based practice. Through the support of family, friends and colleagues, I was able to overcome the initial challenges and use them as opportunities for growth. I had to step out of my comfort zone to allow for personal and professional development. I learned and am continuing to learn lessons along the way. One of which is, what is meant for you will be. I believe it’s natural to become discouraged when things start to get shaky or seem as if things aren’t going as planned. I have learned to trust the process and to celebrate the small wins. Don’t give up, keep going, get a good team of people around you and be present each step of the way. I also believe in encouraging others to continue to pursue their goals and working together to help one another. Community is valuable and I am excited that I get to facilitate a supportive environment within my practice.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend was visiting the area, I would want them to experience good food, fun and relaxation. We wouldn’t have to do much to have a good time, but if we needed an itinerary. We may start with breakfast or brunch at local eatery, I like Snooze and First Watch to name a few. I enjoy trying restaurants and I am always on the lookout for new restaurants to visit with friends. I appreciate the arts, so we would visit a museum or two such as the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. We may also visit the Botanic Garden to relax amongst nature. To hang out, we may visit a shopping center to walk around, enjoy the boutique shops and more restaurants. Next on the itinerary, would be rest and relaxation, we would visit a local spa or nail salon for a calm escape. For additional fun, we may visit a local Rooftop patio to enjoy the views, laugh and wind down. With friends, I appreciate the laid-back times to hang out and enjoy one another’s company. I also enjoy good food and like to have fun experiences whether it’s an activity or catching up at a local place in the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am very thankful to all of the people that I have met along the way. I appreciate each contributions that has led me to where I am today. My family including my parents, siblings and son. I am grateful for their love, support and encouragement that has sustained me throughout the ups and downs. From the time I began graduate school, to completing my Masters, to working on my Doctorate and beginning private practice my support system has been my anchor. I would like to shout out my professors and colleagues who were mentors throughout graduate school and during my transition into entrepreneurship. I would also like to express my appreciation to my friends that have and continue to support me. I am beyond grateful for everyone’s contribution, continued support and encouragement every step of the way.
