We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dylan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
For me the success cannot be tied to how the brand is doing. In the beginning everyone wants to be super successful immediately. I believe for me its keeping my routine and keeping the noise blocked out. No matter how up or down the business is, I try to keep my prayers the same. As long as I am fulfilling my purpose and executing a vision from God I know the rest is out of my control. The most important thing for me would be to not get lost in what I cannot control.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always loved music and fashion. It came from my pops. He was always the cleanest in the room and had this calm confidence. Long car rides of listening to him whistle along to what I think is some of the best music playlists nobody has ever heard. Just classic songs back to back all meshed together on one CD. After a while I began to memorize the CD’s and what order the songs were in. The feeling the music gave us driving home from a long day of fishing at 1am is what stuck with me. That feeling is what I get now when I make music. I spent the majority of my life focused on basketball while making playlists and giving friends feedback on their music. I spent 4 years in the band as well. When the hoop dreams deflated, I decided to start making music and I had friends that reached out that kind of gave me confirmation in what I was doing. The two artists I mainly produce for Jae Tizzle and PVT (going bar for bar with anybody) are the reason I’m making music today. They are amazing artists and have helped me develop at a rapid pace in a couple years. I also have had my friends here in Dallas that have embraced me and added me to their label Match One Records. They were there from Day 1 and were patient with me while I learned. They all have their 10,000 hours in and gave me the room to make mistakes and learn my own sound all while continuously making me better. I treated my music development like basketball. A thousand shots a day. Designing clothes for me was a different task. It taught me so much about life that I would not have learned through music. The attention to detail, the process behind execution, resources and researching. The process can be so challenging for each collection but the feeling of executing a vision to its full potential is like no other. Fashion has been a slower developing process and has taught me about patience and my own individuality. I am just reaching back to my childhood interests and maximizing them. I was in middle school when my best friend at the time ABL decided to start a brand. I was along for the ride, I had just started photography and was always taking pictures. Having my own brand now and designing makes me respect the 13 year old ABL even more because he had a well developed vision. Everything I do now I have dabbled in previously in life. Modeling, podcasting, dj’ing, photography. I have always wanted to be able to be a vessel and be used by God, so I try to develop skills that I can use to serve others. That’s how I came up with the brand name NSPRD. The highest human act is to inspire someone. I pray that I’m living my life in a way that would give others a perspective on finding themselves and wanting to be the highest version of that. I want people to feel like they are in their first day of school fit every time they wear a piece from the brand. I want to create that exciting feeling you get when you envision an outfit and execute it perfectly. You know you have to get a picture in it. Somebody has to see you. I want people to feel special in a piece and feel like they deserve to be seen. We all shy away from what we are good at in fear of being perceived as cocky. It feels good to step into that sometimes. It feels good knowing you look good and others confirming that. When I was younger my coach told my mom to take me to get a haircut before every tournament. He said I was my best when I looked good. Look good, feel good, play good. You are who you think you are. As a producer I am doing my best to give my artists the best platform to say what they need to say in whatever way they see fit. As a designer I am here to give people a lasting floating feeling through comfortable, easy to style quality pieces.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I first moved here all my friends would come visit. I would always take them around the city to different places I discovered I liked. I always show them the view of downtown at night when everything is lit up. Some of the best food places to me are actually food trucks. Its cool discovering them and getting to know the people making the food. I would always take them to Deep Ellum to drink and eat. They always want to go to Whataburger while they are here as well. I have been trying to get my friends to move out here with me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents and family from day one have always believed I could do anything I wanted. Beyond the typical confidence parents have in their kids. Everything I have ever tried in life they have believed I could be elite at it. That confidence has stayed with me and I have been blessed with friends and mentors along the way that have humbled me and shaped me into who I am.
