We had the good fortune of connecting with Dravin Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dravin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my own business because I’ve always wanted to go above and beyond for the clients I serve. Working under an employer always seemed to hinder my ability to perform the BEST service I possibly can. Taking a big risk like starting a business is only scary when we think about it. Personally, I thought about starting a company for two days max before I made the decision to jump into it. Starting a company isn’t the easiest task to accomplish, mainly because I didn’t realize how much my personal life was going to change. Anything is possible with positive reinforcement and support from the people around you.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s hard to wake up and choose to be self-motivated each day, but on those days I have to remind myself of where I want to be in the future, and if I stay in bed I won’t make it there. It takes constant motivation and daily hard work to get a business started and keep it going. On days when we’re not working on a remodel project we keep busy by networking with future clients, organizing our warehouse, and finding new ways to make revenue. Any day we can find something productive to do that expands the business, is a good day for us.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Frisco has become one of my most favorite places to visit in the DFW area. Since being in the area I’ve learned about “Scratch Kitchens” and have never looked back! Any restaurants that offer fresh, homemade food will always have me as a customer. The Star in Frisco is the best experience in DFW; whether you want food, drinks, or even watch the Dallas Cowboys practice!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My amazing wife and God are the two most important factors behind my motivation. I am also extremely grateful to my coworker Ian, he is the best teammate I could have asked for. Together, we design beautiful remodels and help the community as much as we can. Everyone in my life has been supportive of my decision to start a business, and I am very blessed to have that kind of encouragement.
