We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Ronnie Rocio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Ronnie, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have a Bachelor’s degree is in English, a Master’s degree is in Secondary Reading and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. I’ve been an educator for 12+ years, teaching English and Reading. So with that being said, people would always feel the need to bring their documents to me to apply a second set of eyes and editing, if needed. So it had become a habit, to proofread and edit people’s documents. Documents such as business contracts, business proposals, personal books/novels, resumes, cover letters, college essays, all the way to doctoral dissertations. It was natural and easy for me to do, but after doing a few editing jobs for people with their own businesses, I thought, “I need to make THIS a business. I can’t keep doing this as a free favor to others.” And that’s what birthed Double R Editing Services.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I believe what sets Double R Editing apart from others, is that it culminates a plethora of services. From resumes, cover letters, character/reference letters, to college essays, scholarship essays, websites, legal contracts, business proposals, and doctoral theses/dissertations. I am also an author of 3 books, sold on the website as well. I consult with my clients about their next steps and routes to publishing, given that I have went the publisher route as well as the self-published route, so I am well-versed in those areas to give sound advice. Lastly, Double R Editing Services provides certified and fully-insured Notarial Services. Yes, I am a Notary too! It’s a One-Stop-Shop!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t really go out anymore. So those days are really over. Been there, done that. I am more of a home body now and my doctoral program turned me into a little introvert. Anyone who has endured a doctoral journey can vouch for that. LOL. So I’d rather we go bike riding together, work out, and if we need to go out for a nice dinner and drinks, my spots are Kona Grill for sushi and nice warm Sake. Blue Fish is another one of my spots. Spiral Diner, Flower Child, and Noodle Wave for some good vegan Thai dishes and Lemongrass Tea.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I would like to give thanks to God because without him I would not have the strength and resiliency to continue to overcome the obstacles life throws at me.

I would like to dedicate this Shoutout to my kids, Raj and Dillon. You guys are the ones that inspire me to be better, do better and to break generational curses by leaving you a legacy.

I am also thankful to my friends and family who have continued to support me on this journey and believed in me the entire time. To name a few: my cousin, Ashley W., who continually sends me much business, keep ’em coming girlll! My coworker and boy, Alex T., who gives me great financial advice on particular gigs and brings me my Starbucks to keep me caffeined (SIC) up as I work. My Uncle Vick, my BIGGEST FAN & loves promoting his niece on the west coast! My girl, Shanequa, whose been there since day 1, sending me clients, and buys every book I write despite her own struggles. Her words from the hospital, “I just want to make sure I get my copy!” LOL. Last but not least, thank you to my “Dari” for being a support system, not a hindrance, when I need it most and for understanding my grind, respecting it, and letting me do my thang. It’s much appreciated! I can’t name everyone, but I’m grateful to all who have supported Double R Editing Services! Until the next one!
