We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Danyell Russell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Danyell, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For me, opening my own practice started because I wanted to be able to provide the best quality of care for my clients and patients. I came from a career in insurance-based physical therapy where seeing as many patients as possible took priority over the quality of care that we were providing and where insurance dictates what a plan of care looks like. By opening my own self pay practice, it allows me to give the highest level of care and not be limited by what insurance companies determine is “medically necessary.” You and I determine what your care looks like, not a third-party who knows nothing about you.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Strong Foundation Physical Therapy is a mobile physical therapy practice that specializes in pregnancy care, postpartum recovery, pelvic floor rehabilitation, and fitness athlete performance. One of the things that sets SFPT apart is that I am mobile, meaning that I come to you in your home. Not only is this extremely convenient for you as my client, it also allows for me to cater your plan of care more to you because I get to see what your home environment looks like. This is especially helpful for my newly postpartum mamas! You don’t have to worry about childcare or bringing your kiddos to a clinic. I come to you in the comfort of your own home!

I started SFPT while I was furloughed from my full-time job due to COVID. And let me tell you, starting a business in the middle of a pandemic is not for the faint of heart! Networking is a huge part of what I do, so the fact that we weren’t able to meet in person for the first several months of my business being open made a huge impact on my ability to get things off the ground. But I have made some really great connections and things are starting to get busier and busier business-wise!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely hang out at East Side bar in Denton. I love the patio environment and the drinks are great!

I would take them to eat at Marty B’s, because who doesn’t love Marty B’s?

Most of my friends have kids too, so we would be hanging out at the Double Tree Splash Pad for sure!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest supporter in my journey as a business owner is definitely my husband. We have 2 young kids at home, and he has been amazing with doing the majority of the care for the boys and management of our home while I’m building my business and treating clients.

I also wouldn’t be where I am without the support of Cori Lively, a wonderful midwife in Addison. She has been great with connecting me with others as well as being a wonderful referral source!

I also owe a lot of credit to David and Lindsey Nichols of CrossFit Flower Mound. The community of people they gave gathered in their gym is amazing and I am so blessed to be a part of their community!
