We had the good fortune of connecting with Dillon Baxter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dillon, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want to be the person who led the world’s transition away from plastic items to plant-based alternatives.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
PlantSwitch is changing the way people think about sustainability by providing biodegradable alternatives to plastic that actually work. We’ve been in business for about a year providing straws and cutlery made from the upcycled agave waste from tequila production. We’ve seen an overwhelmingly positive response to our products and have gone from going door-to-door selling straws to local restaurants to building out a sales team and being carried by almost every major national distributor. It was very difficult to start a business coming out of the pandemic, especially selling a premium product to foodservice and hospitality companies, but we have a great team that has been persistent and has landed progressively bigger deals every month.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to play golf at Trinity Forest. If the Mavs are playing we’d have to catch a game at American Airlines. On the weekends I would go to brunch at the Rustic or Hudson House and then Katy Trail Ice House for day drinking. At night my favorite restaurant and place to hang out is Drake’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to shout out my parents for supporting me after quitting my job, my friends for helping open doors and holding me accountable, my co-founder for convincing me to start and stick with PlantSwitch, and SMU for teaching me the skills needed.
