We had the good fortune of connecting with Diane Pereira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diane, what do you attribute your success to?
Being realistic and serving the community. Plain and simple. If it wasn’t for the amazing community we have, no shop at all would be where they would want to be. Hard work and knowing that you serve a community and making the community aware that it is all for them is the root for growth.
Making an instagram page just for the community (not shops) was integral for me. They deserve accolades as well, www,instagram.com/makefortworthwitchy is the instagram.
Having fun days at the shop, showing the community that they have a safe space. These things matter.
We have a pantry as well that helps the community as well, and we accept all types of food, feminine products, baby food, towels, whatever is needed. Little things matter the most to us and hugging back the community is where we are at with success, if that. We are there for them.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My adventures with Fort Witch were not easy, and will continue to be an adventure. Every day is a challenge here and there. With some people not liking a witch shop in their neighborhood all the way to the people who love us and wish us success and happiness.
Biggest lesson I have learnt is to continue pressing forward. My grandmother, that taught me what I know had a saying. Roughly translated into English from Portuguese is: When you shit and walk at the same time, keep walking forward, that way you don’t step into the shit behind you. Always forward.
I just want the world to know, if they are listening, reading, whatever, is that we are for the community and for Mother Earth, the Moon, the Sun and for all the right reasons. I may be a solitary witch, but I will get uncomfortable for my community if that means we are helping someone.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely tell them to see my shop neighbors! DUH! Ain’t no other plaza like it! There is Horror Freak – a shop just with horror stuff. Then Vintage Freak, which has records and cassettes and clothing for sustainable living! We even have Quarter Lounge which is an arcade!!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think every single person that comes to the shop to have a chat, every single like on a social media post, every single person who shares our posts, every single fucking person that gives a shit of a small little witch shop that knows we are for the community above all, that’s who deserves the credit. Not me, I just serve and help where I can.
