We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Alexis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diamond, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When starting my brand I wanted to make sure that it was a reflection of who I am as a person. I am constantly evolving and changing what I like and what interests me. So when starting my brand I made sure that I embodied that the best way I could. I wanted to make sure that everything that I created was handmade, creative, custom, and had great quality. Basically selling items that I, myself, would buy. 11:07 is basically my own art/ wearable art collection of things I don’t mind selling to others. My goal is to alway be affordable. I don’t strive to become a luxury brand, but instead a household brand that everyone can afford. I wanted 11:07’s goal to be to create custom pieces for all individuals at affordable prices because, well… good quality art shouldn’t be a luxury. Everyone deserves art.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

My art is all over the place. One day I’m on one thing and another day im on something completely different but I love that about myself. I’m an artist known for their fiber art (crochet) but I also draw/ paint as well. I specialize in crochet headwear. I make bucket hats, durags, ski masks, balaclavas, cowboy hats, and more. For my art, my original art seems to a little more on the “dark” side but I do draw/ paint anime characters, and other animated illustrations. I try not to categorize too much because I am constantly changing what I want to create. All of my items are catered to everyone, so everything is unisex. I can confidently say that with my designs, my website, marketing, etc that I truly am myself and try to stick with what it is that I want which is what, I feel, sets me apart from others. I try not to let outside people influence my thought process too much because I feel like that’s when I’d lose myself as an individual and the originality that I have for my business.

The beauty in being a business owner is that it’s not easy. If it were easy everyone would do it. I have weeks were I am doing great and weeks were I feel like nothing is going my way but that’s okay because it’s a part of the process. The hardships are nothing but lessons that need to be learned for future use. I believe in myself and have great support from people who genuinely want to see me succeed so that helps me overcome the struggles with being a business owner.

The biggest thing I learned in this journey is that you have to believe in yourself no matter what. It’s the number 1 thing. You have to believe in yourself even when no one else does. It’s so important to do that because people can see when you don’t believe in yourself and that gives them a reason not to.

I want people to know that 11:07 is always striving to become better, more innovative and creative. I want people to grow with the brand and continue to look forward to what’s to come next!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ah.. I don’t go out much but I love the Vegan Food House. They truly have some of the best vegan food, the place is always nice and clean, and the people are always nice and friendly. I also am always at somebodies concert so I love going to House of Blues, American Airlines Center, and South Side Ballroom to see all of my favorite artist(s).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a super huge shoutout to my mom for being my biggest supporter, cheerleader, advocate, fan, mentor, and everything else! She is truly my number 1. I could write a whole book about how much I appreciate her and how much she means to me but I’ll keep it short. When I’m feeling down, need advice, feel like no one is supporting me/ listening and the world is against me I always know that she always has my best interest at heart. She’s constantly giving her all to help me whenever I need help, give advice when advice is needed, and show love at all times no matter what’s going on. I wouldn’t be where/ who I am today without her in my life. I do everything I do so that I am able to give back to her 10 times more than she has ever given me in life because she truly deserves all of that and more. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better mother, best friend, and supporter. I love her so much.
