We had the good fortune of connecting with DeZhané Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeZhané, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose an artistic/creative career because it has always been something I was interested in. I was blessed to have many talents and gifts, so it was inevitable that I would end up pursuing an art career. As a kid, I was always drawing or doing some sort of creative activity. Eventually, during my creative path, it led me to fashion.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an emerging fashion designer based in Dallas, Tx. As a designer, I strive to provide each customer with an elegant and luxurious experience, to ensure their happiness with the product/service. What sets my brand apart from others, is that I create each accessory and garment by hand. I have no manufacturers, no seamstresses and no assistants. Every piece of fabric cut, every thread sewn and every pattern that is made, is all done by hand. I got to where I am now, by simply being consistent. Honestly, you can’t expect for your business to grow or your dreams to come to fruition, if you are not consistent and if you don’t work towards what you want. I’ve learned a lot of lessons when it comes to the creative side of fashion as well as the business side. I’ve learned to not let fear determine whether you will follow through on an idea or not. You have to be the one that believes in your craft and ability even when others are doubtful. I want people to know that DeZha Ja has just started, and that the world will soon be seeing and hearing a lot about my creations.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend or family member to visit me in Dallas, I would first take them for breakfast/brunch at Lo-Lo’s Chicken and Waffles. Afterwards, we would go downtown and visit a few museums and parks. I would take them to The Cake Bar for dessert, and If my guest likes to shop, we would go to The Galleria and or NorthPark. For the night life, we would find a restaurant that has live entertainment, and afterwards, drive around downtown to see the beautiful skyline.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my shoutout to my grandfather. When my grandfather learned about my interest in fashion, he introduced me to shows such as Project Runway. He has been encouraging and supportive throughout my entire journey, and for that, I am grateful.
