We had the good fortune of connecting with Dev Wulf and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dev, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When we originally got together, it spurred from this idea of playing in a band again. We all had our own projects, but as friends, we really wanted to be apart of sound we could share together. As the story for us goes, we all met at a bar over a couple beers and began brainstorming what would eventually become the band we are today.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Texicana is a 4-piece Americana/Rock n’ Roll outfit that started in East Dallas that formed in 2019. A lot of our musical influences range from Grateful Dead, The Band, Bruce Springsteen, and blues influences like Black Crowes, Joe Cocker, and John Lennon’s The Dirty Mac. Our band has been nominated by Central Track as winner for Best New Act and Best Folk Americana Act of 2020 and nominated for Best Americana by the Dallas Observer in 2021.
As a band we’re always learning and evolving as creatives. Our songs can vary in different forms of Rock and Americana, but as a whole they share a common denominator. We write music that sets the tone for your next road trip.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We always have a soft spot for a good dive bar, namely Double Wide. But for a good date night, go to Lower Greenville and have dinner at Rye and drink at Apothecary.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Today I want to dedicate our shoutout to one of my dear friends, Darren Eubank. This is more directly personal for me, and I know there are a list of people the four of us can probably name and their influence and support for us. This Monday, May 30th, will be the one year anniversary of his passing. Darren has always been the type of guy who would always encourage you to pursue your dreams. He’d repeatedly say, “Just quit your job, bro,” and people would listen. In fact there are so many stories of people quitting their jobs and pursuing what they truly wanted. I, too, am an example of that in my own life as a musician and a web designer because of his influence.
