We had the good fortune of connecting with Deshonda Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deshonda, what do you attribute your success to?
The most Important factor was knowing my talent/gift would make room for me. I learned as long as I always put forth my best effort I would be successful and I am so grateful to be in the beauty Industry for 20 plus years. The success of my brand is always showing up, staying current, and staying humble. On those days that seem disappointing when there no clients, to having a few, to now having an awesome clientele built endurance in this industry, and it prepared me throughout this journey to stand strong and never quit.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a cosmetologist, wigmaker, and educator. Throughout my career I have always wanted to stay current. I have taken classes, I research, and I have gained relationships with others in the industry. I love creating beautiful hair! I love finding a solution to their issue, great or small. I think one thing that definitely sets me apart is time management. My clients are my priority and each one gets their personal time with me, I don’t overlap my appointments and my clients have a sense of relief to know their time is valued. I got to this point in my career by remaining humble and being ok with my business and it’s progression. I am super excited about the growth that is yet to come. I want to help others in the industry to become successful. I want the world to know I am dedicated to the beauty industry, within my business I want to help anyone I can with beautiful hair, I want to create jobs for other beauty pros, educate in the field, and leave a legacy for those that follow behind me. I want to encourage beauty 365 days a year.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Omg we would definitely go to Pappasitos my absolute favorite spot to eat. I would take my friend to West 7th St for music and get into the night time vibe. We would go to enjoy the downtown atmosphere from Ruth Criss, to riding on the bike experience, axe throwing, bowling, and dancing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my husband Michael Thomas for the love, understanding, and always supporting me and the business. My daughter Taelor for always keeping me current in styles and new trends. Thanks to my parents Dwight and Anna Tucker who always believed in me when I gain my cosmetology degree in high school. To my cosmetology instructor JoAnn Washington for teaching me how to become a successful hairstylist. To Paul Laurence Dunbar High School for having a vocational program designed to help young people succeed in their path in life. To the rest of family and friends who have always been in my corner and supported me throughout my career.
